Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter covers the methods and procedures used in the conduct

of the study. This process includes the research design, population and

sampling technique, research procedures, research instrument and the

statistical treatment.

Research Design

The researchers used descriptive method research. It deals with the

study that presents facts concerning the number of subject, a set of condition

and class of events. It also describes data and characteristics about the

population or phenomena being studied.

Population and Sampling Technique

The population of the study comprised the total number of sixty (60)

pupils of Grade VI in Pinagbayanan Elementary School Pila, Laguna. The

research used of purposive sampling technique. This kind of sampling is

based on selecting the individual as sample according to the purposes of the

researcher as her controls. An individual is selected as part of the sample due

to good evidence that she is the representative of the total population.

Research Procedure

After the approval of the given title and brief lecture the researchers

reviewed relevant theories and literature from books, thesis, lectures manuals

and internet related to the study. The gathered data were the materials or

sources used for the entire dissertation paper and became the backbone of

the research. Then the researchers start to formulate the questionnaire that

will be given to the selected respondents. The Grade Vi pupils of

Pinagbayanan Elementary School Pila, Laguna as the respondents to answer

the questionnaire independently. The researchers personally distributed and

retrieved the questionnaire for tabulation and computation.

The questionnaire is the major instrument for the foregoing sub-

problem areas, it contains statement pertaining to the Bilingualism and oits

effect towards students competence of Grade VI pupils in Pinagbayanan

Elementary school Pila, Laguna.

Research Instrument

The major instrument in this study was the questionnaire consisting of

checklist type of questions regarding the Bilingualism towards students

competence of Grade VI pupils in Pinagbayanan Elementary School Pila,

Laguna.

The questionnaire will be divided into two parts .The first part will

contain the questionnaire regarding the mean level of Bilingualism which

composed of Code- switching. The second part will contain the question

regarding the students competence in terms of Knowledge, Comprehension

and Application. The students will ask to choose from the following scale: (1)

Strongly Agree (2) Agree, (3) Moderately Agree, (4) Disagree and (5) Strongly

Disagree. The mean responses of the subject were interpreted using the

scale below.

Statistical Treatment

This section of the study discussed different statistical treatment used

in this study. Statistical treatments were used to determine the effect of

Bilingualism to the students competence In Pinagbayanan Elementary School

Pila, Laguna. The statistical treatment used are as follows.

Mean and standard Deviation was used to determine the effect of

Bilingualism towards students competence.
