Assignment

Identify the different natural disasters and calamities that the country experiences
and explain each.

Typhoons
A gigantic storm is a typhoon that brings wind, rain and destruction. Both
types of tropical cyclones are hurricanes and typhoons. So if you see one coming,
watch out! For example, the Philippines' most devastating typhoon last year 2020
is Super Typhoon Goni (Rolly) and Typhoon Yolanda, the most powerful typhoon
in the world that hit Philippines last 2013.

Earthquake
It is a sudden and violent shaking of the ground, sometimes causing great
destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action.
The "2020 Masbate Earthquake" that happened last year is the example of an
earthquake and we should be aware and educated on what to do if earthquake
occurs.

Volcanic Eruption
The Philippines is sitting on the Pacific Ring of Fire and is among the
countries with most active and dangerous volcanoes. A volcanic eruption occurs
when magma is released from a volcano. Volcanic eruptions can be quite calm and
effusive, or they can be explosive. Effusive eruptions produce lava flows, while
explosive eruptions produce ash and pyroclastic density currents. Last year, the
Philippines had a volcanic explosion known as the "2020 Volcanic Eruption."
Hundreds of thousands of individuals were impacted.

Virus Outbreak
An outbreak is a sudden rise in the number of cases of a disease.
An outbreak may occur in a community or geographical area, or may affect several
countries. It may last for a few days or weeks, or even for several years. We are all
aware that a viral epidemic is presently taking place; the name of the virus is
“Corona Virus Disease” (COVID-19). During the epidemic, millions of people
were infected, and millions of people perished. As a result, we must constantly
take precautions.

Landslides
Defined as the movement of a mass of rock, debris, or earth down a slope.
Landslides are a type of "mass wasting," which denotes any down-slope movement
of soil and rock under the direct influence of gravity. The term "landslide"
encompasses five modes of slope movement: falls, topples, slides, spreads, and
flows. Landslides are caused by disturbances in the natural stability of a slope.
They can accompany heavy rains or follow droughts, earthquakes, or volcanic
eruptions.

Flooding
A flood is an overflow of water that submerges land that is usually dry. In
the sense of "flowing water", the word may also be applied to the inflow of
the tide. Floods are an area of study of the discipline hydrology and are of
significant concern in agriculture, civil engineering and public health. Human
changes to the environment often increase the intensity and frequency of flooding,
for example land use changes such as deforestation and removal of wetlands,
changes in waterway course or flood controls such as with levees, and larger
environmental issues such as climate change and sea level rise. Flooding may
occur as an overflow of water from water bodies, such as a river, lake, or ocean, in
which the water overtops or breaks levees, resulting in some of that water escaping
its usual boundaries, or it may occur due to an accumulation of rainwater on
saturated ground in an area flood.

Terrorism
The unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to
intimidate or coerce a Government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof,
in furtherance of political or social objectives. Examples of terrorism that happen
in Philippines is the bombing of Abu Sayyaf Group in Mindanao.
