“The Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Secretary, Mateo Jesus

said: “He hoped that the youth would realize that they could be more than
employees. The dream did not have to end at mere employment or getting a
job. They did not have to work for someone else, nor did they have to leave the
country. Senior high school graduates could create opportunities for themselves
and for others, and could control their own destiny,” (Written by Tricia Aquino,
InterAksyon.com).” BPI Shape Entrepreneurship Resource Book

What is it?

A. SWOT ANALYSIS

It is a business analysis process that ensures that objectives for a project are
clearly defined and that all factors related to the project are properly identified.
The SWOT analysis process involves four areas: Strengths and Weaknesses
(Internal); Opportunities and Threats (External). Both internal and external
components are considered when doing SWOT Analysis, as they both have the
potential to impact the success of a project or venture. The following is a brief
summary of SWOT Analysis components as taken from BPI Shape
Entrepreneurship Resource Book:

1. Strengths. Strengths in SWOT analysis are the attributes within an organization

that are considered to be necessary for the ultimate success of a project. Strengths
are resources and capabilities that can be used for competitive advantage.

2. Weaknesses. The factors within the SWOT analysis formula that could prevent
successful results within a project are Weaknesses. Weaknesses include factors
such as an abundance of rivalry between departments, a weak internal
communication system, lack of funding and an inadequate amount of materials.
Weaknesses can derail a project before it even begins.

3. Opportunities. These are classified as external elements that might be helpful in

achieving the goals set for the project. These factors could involve vendors who wish
to work with the company to help achieve success, the positive perception of the
company by the general public, and market conditions that could make the project
desirable to the a segment of the market.

4. Threats. These external factors could gravely affect the success of the project or
business venture. The possible threats that are critical to any SWOT analysis include
a negative public image, no ready-made market for the final product and the lack of
vendors who are able to supply raw materials for the project.

5
B.INNOVATION

Key steps towards business innovation

1. Conduct an analysis of the market environment, your customers wants

and needs and competitors. Be open to new ideas and adaptive to
change.

2. Develop a strategic, responsive plan, which includes innovation as a

key business process across the entire business.

3. Leadership in innovation - train and empower YOURSELF and the people

with whom you work. Inspirational leadership and motivation is what
drives innovation in business.

4. Connect with customers, classmates and entrepreneurship

teachers to generate ideas for improving processes, products and
services both internally and externally.

5. Seek advice. Utilize available resources, business advisors, and

assistance to drive innovation in your business.

Remember, innovation is the key to competitive advantage for your business.

C. LEARNING TASKS

Each learning task is equivalent to student assessment. A sample of rubrics

has been provided for each task in the Reference Part. Modifications can be done to
fit the need/s of the competencies. All the tasks shall be copied and answered
completely and neatly in a short bond paper. All written outputs should be submitted
in a short folder with plastic cover.

you prefer to collect a data – through interview or through survey. You will do

What I have learned?
Now that you have finally created your own product/service for your
community, start to write your dream for that product/service….
Your Dream Book (Homework) - (Taken from BPI Shape)
“A dream book is a physical materialization of the learners’ dreams with
specific targets temporally (target dates). It includes pictures of the dreams they want
to achieve that should include specific details (description, size, color, numbers,
brand, etc.). Constructing the dream book, entails an activity of life planning. Life
planning is a guided process by which an individual takes stock of his or her life,
clarifies goals and challenges, and identifies the steps needed to move forward. Life
planning is often collaborative because life issues cross more than one discipline.”
Create your own dream book. Change its title from Dream Book to a Dream
Product/Service or any title you deem appropriate.
