__T__14. The type of message determines the channel that the sender should use.
FINAL TASK
In this situation, Larry loves apple pie, the problem is that Larry does not know the
first thing to make an apple pie. So, he turns to his roommate Steve who has experience in
baking, Larry asked Steve he can be able to make an apple pie not just for him, but for the
both of them, Steve said yes and made two apple pies. They now have apple pies to enjoy
that day.
The source of the situation is Larry. The message is Larry’s request for the creation
of an apple pie. The channel is through face-to-face communication since they both live
under the same roof. Lastly, the receiver is Larry’s roommate Steve.
Larry sent the message and Steve decoded the message in a swift manner. No
interruptions when communicating with the topic at hand. The feedback from Steve is fine,
as I’ve mentioned, no interruptions happened in between the topic they were
communicating. There are no barriers within the conversation. No noise from the channel
in turn, no interference with the conversation. The communication between Larry and
Steve is a two-way conversation, it is because in the situation, where Larry asked if Steve
can be able to make an apple pie, Steve thought it was a great idea to make and they both
agreed to make two apple pies. The communication appeared ethical because there was no
negativity in the conversation that Larry and Steve had about apple pies.
Overall, What I have to say about the communication process that took place
between Larry and Steve is: It went well. There were no interruptions found in their
conversation, there were no bad intentions within the topic, and there was no
miscommunication between the roommates: Larry and Steve.
MODULE ANSWER SHEET
The NCA Credo for Ethical Communication states that “ethical communication is
fundamental to responsible thinking, decision making, and the development of relationships and
communities within and across contexts, cultures, channels, and media”. In this situation, Jake’s
behavior violated the guidelines by plagiarizing his research paper on legalizing marijuana use in
the Philippines. He gathered information from his roommate without the proper citation or proper
or ethical way of stating if the information is factual or not.
How Jake can avoid this, how he cannot turn this as a problem is by doing his research
properly. By going to the library or any place he can get information in the right way. Most
importantly, acknowledge where he gets the information from, because it will be asked by his
superiors and once Jake does not answer their questions, that is where the trouble will commence.
