As a social being living in this social world, we socialized in different forms expressing
different ideas through communication. Communication is vital in one's life for it is one of
the primary ways to deal with others. We use it for many reasons and in many ways.
In connection to this, this learning module will guide you to unveil the learnings that
you need to know about communication. This module covers the function, elements, and
process of communication. It will give insights regarding, how human being use
communication as it upholds and develops other aspects of human life.

always involves in any communication activity between and among humans. Human
communication is like a tool that has a function like a car or motorcycle. Its function is to
make our life easy in channeling, transporting, and delivering message. In this lesson,
you will work in dyad and learn about communication. Also at the end of this lesson you
will be able to explain the function of communication.

3. In the graphic organizer, member #1 will first fill out the left box with ideas
about the functions of communication. After member #1, the right box will be
filled out by member #2 giving an example of the said function of
communication stated by member #1.
4. Write your answer on the worksheet provided for this lesson. Your worksheet

You said that the video presented was about a man who liked a woman. This woman doesn’t
speak and hear because she had a hearing problem. The man was trying to communicate and
court her however he failed. Just like the video presented earlier, you were able to relate the
video which is all about the communication. Communication is a process that needs effort if
you want to get the attention of someone just like the situation in the video. The man thought
that a woman was strict and didn’t want to disturb but he found out that she was deaf and
unable to speak. So, what he did was, he made an effort to catch his attention to a woman.
Hence, in this lesson you will be working in dyad, and learn about the different elements of
communication also at the end of this lesson each partner will be given a definition written
on a strip of paper about “COMMUNICATION” and be able operationally define from
different authors. Each partner will be given 5 to 7 minutes to discuss

Nature of Communication
Communication as a PROCESS
Communication is INTERACTIVE occurs between two or more people (Speaker and the
Receiver)
Elements of Communication
Speaker/ Sender Convey the messages
Listener/ Receiver Hear the signals and convert the symbols into
thought
Channels Refers to the medium through which the
message is sent
Feedback Refers to the message transmitted by the
receiver
Noise Anything that reduces the quality of signal
sent by the sender

IV. GUIDED PRACTICE
A. Productive Collaboration
Instructions:
1. Work with your partner in dyad.
2. Each pair will be given a definition written on a strip of paper about
“communication” from different authors.
3. Each member will have his/her assigned number.
4. Each representative will be given 5 to 7 minutes to discuss their assigned
theory per partner.
5. At random, your assigned number will be called. The person who is assigned
on that number will stand and give his/her own definition of communication
based on the given strip of paper.

Reflection
In today’s lesson you learned the process of communication and the importance of each element.
Every element of communication matters for it has its purpose. In life we often encounter
problems that we mistakenly take for granted, we usually deny those simple instructions instead
of doing it we just turn blind eye as if we didn’t see or hear something, just like when we are
scolded instead of listening to the mistakes that we did and grow with the advice that is being
utter, we often take things for granted.

Lesson 3: Dimensions of Communication
In this lesson, you will discover and understand why do we need to be alone and talk to
ourselves, go to our friend and share our feelings. The value of LEADERSHIP will also be
integrated in this lesson, as you will cooperate in doing the activity.

What you said earlier were correct. Communication has its own elements and
these make the communication process function well. To have an effective
communication there must be sender, message, channel, receiver and feedback.
With that, you will work in dyad and learn about the dimensions of
communication. Also at the end of the lesson you will be able to explain the
dimension of communication by listing the types of communication, identifying
the types of communication, and demonstrating the types of communication.
Types of Communication
1. Intrapersonal Communication
∙ Involves talking with your own self. It may also involve deliberation where you think about your
decisions or possible courses of action.
∙ It may also involve meditation to yourself, where you think about your life and what is involved
in it.
2. Interpersonal Communication
∙ It involves talking to one or a limited number of people.
∙ This requires you to adjust your speech to suit the character and personality of the person or
people you talk to.
3. Public

∙ Involves communicating to a whole group of people with very varied traits, background,
interests, and persuasions. It requires a lot of background explanation in expressing your ideas.
4. Intercultural
∙ Involves communicating with a person or group of people who may not share the same
assumptions and values as that of yours and may have different associations with the symbols you
take for granted as having a particular meaning.
