High Demand for products and the subsequent boom of manufacturing MSME’s
particularly in the electronics sector has driven rapid industrialization and led workers to
work faster and adapt to their un-ergonomically designed workstations. Assembly line work
in the Electronics industry involves precision and the assembly of a large number of
components in a short span of time and assemble the components with accuracy.
___

This study was conducted at a Printed Circuit Board Assembly line and observations were made
and surveys conducted with respect to working postures and hazards practised keeping in mind
the post coronavirus pandemic industry. Problems were identified ranging from wide prevalence
of Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSD) to uncomfortable workstations and work
stress. Solutions to the current problems have been identified keeping ergonomic principles and
anthropometric data in mind and the findings show that current workstation design needs to be
revamped to make the assembly line ergonomically designed and suitable for the post pandemic
world as well as to minimise and eliminate awkward postures to lower WMSD’s and improve
productivity among assembly workers.
