Children are the future of the country, therefore we must ensure the security of

children, both physically and psychologically, for a better future. There have been

advances in some parts of the world regarding the security of children; however, many

serious problems still remain. One of the most severe problems being faced currently is

violence against children, especially in Pakistan. it is still going on against children

particularly in schools and other educational institutions as beating with sticks, whips or

use equipments, humiliated, verbally attacked, gone through senseless actions in

schools. In many countries, school officials routinely used corporal punishment to

maintain classroom discipline and to punish children for poor academic performance or

for the purpose of disciplining, or to prevent attitudes or behaviors. These measures

often resulted in bruising, swelling, and small cuts; at times, however, children suffered

more serious injuries such as sprained or broken fingers or wrists, knocked-out teeth,

internal injuries, and even death.

maintaining a friendly classroom environment has been a major priority in education

and that the government is spending money to make the classroom a learning habitat

and the bill is passed from the parliament through eighteen amendment that The child

has the right to be shown respect for his personality and individuality and shall not be

made subject to corporal punishment or to other humiliating or degrading treatments.

In this regard govt of Baluchistan has issued a notification, ban on corporal punishment

so copies of notification were distributed among the participant and divided them in

four groups and further they were asked to write strength and weaknesses of the

notification.

Following are the strengths and weaknesses came through their views.

Strength

 It will be very helpful to avert corporal punishment if it would be implemented

with sincerity because it is from parliament.

 Through this notification teachers can be easily sensitized everybody gives

priority to his job in Pakistan.

 Through this notification school drop out of the students will be reduced

 It will create new methods of teaching in schools, it will compelled

department, teacher and parents to think for their child.

Weaknesses

 It is being considered as just simple an information

 There are no suggestions for teacher’s training which is very important for

alleviation of corporal punishment.

 There is no planning and strategy for presentation of corporal punishment, it

just order to stop but not mentioned how.

 The department has shown no interest till it is passed from the department

 In the notification there is no specification of responsibilities of department,

teacher, and parents.

At the end of workshop brief introduction of Child rights Convention was given. In

this session all forty one articles were presented briefly, though time was short so

workshop was formally ended.
