I. INTRODUCTION
Every action constitutes a consequence, a famous quote says. In nature, everything
happens with a purpose and has a reason. In this chapter, we will study the impacts of human
activities in the environment and how environment reacts to these activities and affect humans.

III. OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON


Before we proceed studying and learning this module, I want you to remember the
following objectives that you need to achieve:
o Describe how people generate different types of waste as they use various materials and
resources
o Explain how different types of waste affect people’s health and the environment, and
o Cite ways of reducing the production of waste at home, in school, and around the
community.

Environment refers to everything that surrounds a living organism which includes
physical factors such as air, water, soil and biological factors such as organisms, flora and fauna.

An ecosystem is a community of organisms interacting with each other and with abiotic
components of the environment.
A healthy ecosystem requires the so called ecosystem services, this refers to the direct
and indirect contribution of ecosystems to human survival and quality of life. Refer to page 122-
123 on your book.
Human activities, Waste, and Waste management
Solid waste is a global issue nowadays, it is a major issue to most countries as man uses
more resources. Waste management is a global joint project in order to counter the problem on
waste. It comes in many forms in various countries. These types of wastes are stated on page
125-126 on your book.
Methods of waste disposal
There will always be a proper way of disposing our wastes. Not just simply ensure
cleanliness but also to ensure the conservation of our environment. These methods are stated on
page 127-128 on your book.
