Assessment: Animal Product Per Capita Consumption (PCC) Projected Demand (PD)

The document contains a table that provides per capita consumption and projected demand data for various animal products in the Philippines. It then lists two calculation problems - computing projected beef demand given population and consumption data, and determining the number of people a pork production volume can support given per capita consumption. Population and growth rate figures for the Philippines are also provided.

Assessment

Using the data from Table 2 in the handout, compute for the Per Capita
Consumption and Projected Demand of every Filipino of different animal products.
Express your answer in kilograms.
Per Capita Consumption Projected Demand
1
Animal Product (PCC) (PD)2
(consumption of animal product (projected demand of the
per person per year) product in the succeeding year)

Beef 2.41 kg 264,168,486.40 kg

Carabeef
Pork
Chevon
Chicken meat
Chicken egg
Duck egg
Milk

Population (estimate for 2019): 108,310,000

Population growth rate: 1.36%
1PCC = volume of production ÷ population

Annual increase in population = population x population growth rate

2PD = (population + annual increase in population) x PCC

or current population x (1 + population growth rate) x PCC

1 metric ton= 1,000 kg

Note: PD values should be calculated using the unrounded calculated PCC values.
All calculated PCC values should be in kilogram (kg) except PCC for milk
which should be in grams (g); 1 kg = 1000 g
All calculated PD values should be in kg.
All answers in the table should be rounded to two decimal places.
Solve the following.

1. If the current population is 84,254,513 with an annual growth rate of 2.35%,

compute for the projected demand for beef in the coming year if per capita
consumption is 2.52 kg. Express your answer in metric tons. Show your
solution.

2. Given the average dressed weight of slaughtered hogs is 65 kg/hd, how

many persons can be supported of the total volume of pork produced if the
number of hogs slaughtered is 8,433,263 hd and the PCC is 15.67 kg?
Show your solution.
