Meaning of Speech
 Speech means what the speaker says in front of the audience. It is a fully audience-oriented system.
Generally, political leaders, managers, businessmen, or workers’ leaders sometimes use this system. It
can build tension or it can relax tension. This system is practiced in a public gathering, at company
meetings, inauguration, and seminars, etc. It needs considerable skills otherwise it is not effective.

 Business executives, social activists, political and religious leaders deliver speeches regularly in their
respective areas of works. They try to communicate information, ideas, wishes, and opinions to their
colleagues and peers through speech. Hence, delivering an effective and convincing speech is very
essential.
Importance of a Good Speech
 Speech has great power. It can flutter people to uprising or it can create spirit. It can turn an adverse
situation into a friendly one or it can turn a friendly gathering into a hostile move. It can build tension
and it can relax tension.

 The key to the success of many political leaders, industrialists, business magnets, salesman lies in their
capability of making an effective speech.

 In the commercial world, a salesman has to make hundreds of mini speeches a day, convince his
customers to buy certain products. The better his speech-making ability, the better salesman he will be.
Think about a tourist guide whose speech can make a pleasant journey to the traveler. Managers and
businessmen are often required to make speeches at company meetings, inaugurations, seminars, and
discussions. It involves better skills to be prepared as a speaker in such cases.

four key parts: introduction, body, transitions, and conclusion.
 The body of the speech comprises most of what you’ll present: your main points and supporting materials. As you select

be relevant both to the topic and to one another, and they must be balanced in terms of their relative importance.
 Seven patterns of organization are commonly used to organize a speech: chronological, spatial, topical, narrative, cause-
and-effect, problem–solution, and Monroe’s motivated sequence.
 Transitions link is the elements of your speech. Types of transitions include ordering, reinforcing, contrasting,
chronology, causality, and summarizing or concluding.
 The complete-sentence outline is where you record all the parts of your speech. The most detailed outline you’ll produce
for your speech, the complete-sentence outline includes your topic, general-purpose, specific purpose, thesis,
introduction, main points, sub points, conclusion, transitions, and references.
