Narrative-Vinset Seminar

Day 1 – Morning Session

The first day of Vinset Seminar is on August 30,2021. In the morning session, the speakers are Sherwin
O. Lomeda and Sara Jane Sarino talk on “Advantages of Using Open Educational Resources (OERs)”,
Mark Anthony C. Sy, who tackled about the “Retooling of Teachers Capacity in Using ICT and Emerging
Technologies”

What is retooling?

-Adapt something to make more useful or suitable

How can we retool our skills?

1. Attend online sessions to acquire new learning and ignite professional growth.
2. Conduct a research on the efficacy of a specific ICT tool/apps that will be a good
contribution/solution to enrich and enhance the literacy, numeracy and reading proficiency of
learners.
3. Contribute and create rich resources on identified distance learning solution
4. Share, teach and inspire more teachers and learners on the use of distance learning solution.

As what Secretary Leonor Magtulis Briones said, “We have to come up with creative ways in
modernizing our education system”.

For us to come up with creative ways in modernizing education we need to overcome and do the
following:

1. Identify the appropriate teaching strategies to help all learners in any type of learning
environment.
2. Implement the use of technology in instruction.
3. Foster student relationships and learn from them the experience by listening to them.
4. Embrace change and contribute to be the change.
5. Be forward thinking and anticipate the future

What is Open Educational Resources (OERs)?

-refers to free or available materials that that come from with the permission for any one to use modify
or share.

Why OER for DepEd?

1.Teacher can retain, reuse, revise, remix and redistribute

2. It makes education more accessible

3. Connect the disconnected access

4. No internet, no problem
Using kotobee reader in developing E-book as our activity/interactive materials is being discussed fully
by the speaker. Same with how to convert “From Online to Offline” using the Kolibri. Even without
internet connection pupils can still access the lesson. The materials and lesson are available offline. As
long as we teachers uploaded the materials ready for our learners as the saying goes, “We cannot give
what we do not have”
