WEATHER AND CLIMATE

I) CHOOSE THE CORRECT ANSWER AND WRITE.

1. Atmospheric condition prevailing at a place and at a given time ------- (
wind, weather, climate)
2. The horizontal movement of air is called -----
(Pressure, humidity, wind)
3. -------is defined by elements such as temperature, wind, and
humidity.(precipitation,weaher,climate)
4. The air that has greater amount of vapour is called
------ air. (Dry, hot, humid)
5. The humidity in the atmosphere is called----
(Moisture, oxygen, heat)
6.The proportion of moisture in the atmosphere
depends on ----- ( wind, temperature, air pressure)

II} ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTION.

1. What are the elements of weather?
ans) Temperature, Air pressure, Winds, Moisture, Precipitation
2. What is precipitation?
ans) Vapour in the atmosphere condenses into water droplets or snow particles,
which shower on the earth, is called as precipitation.
3. What is called Air pressure?
ans) Air has weight and as a result it creates pressure, is called pressure.
4. What is wind?
ans) Air moving from high pressure towards low pressure areas in a horizontal
direction is called wind.
5. What is called humid air?
ans) The atmosphere contains vapour. The air that has greater amount of
vapour is called humid air.
6. What is called Moisture?
ans ) The humidity the atmosphere is called moisture.
III} GIVE GEOGRAPHICAL REASON FOR THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS.
1. Why is the climate near the sea humid?
WEATHER AND CLIMATE
ANS) The climate near the sea is humid because it contains greater amount of
vapour mixed in the air.
2. Why is the climate of Mahabalehwar cool?
ans) The climate of Mahabalehwar is cool because it is situated at a high
elevation. So, as we move upward from sea-level, the temperature of air decreases.
3. Air pressure decreases with increasing height.
ans. 1. There is greater air pressure near the surface of the earth.
2. The lowermost layers of air are subjected to the pressure of upper layer.
3. Density of the lower layers of air increases.

4. As we move upward from the sea-level, temperature of the air decreases.

ans) 1. The earth surface gets heat from the sun.
2. Thus, the surface gets heated, the air close to the surface starts becoming
hot.
3. Different layers of air at higher elevation receive heat.
