CRITERIA B PRACTICE

TASK 1

SCHOOL has assigned you a research partner from DUBAI- Atif. He has shared research notes
and it contains different types of sources and information about current scientific and
technological developments. These developments address issues relating to resource
management.

Q - Evaluate Atif’s investigation process. In your response, you should consider:

 the range and type of sources

 your partner’s choice of method for recording information
 how successful the investigation was? (Criterion B - 12 marks)
Atif’s project addresses development issues relating to resource management. The research talks
about different aspects of agriculture and energy as solutions. The research also includes current
scientific and technological developments that can help solve the issues of resource
development. His choice of recording the information was an infographic which had a mind map.
Overall, with a balance of text and visual images the research seems balanced.

The research in the info graph is valid, because Atif has used credible websites. He has used both
primary and secondary resources for the research which makes it more valid as the information is
from a large range of resources. For the solutions he has used information from the World
resource institute. The source is a secondary source. He has also given a solution to solve the
agriculture, which mentions Project Potico. The solution also has an infographic attached to it to
help the audience understand it more. He has also included a primary source, which is an
interview that was posted on YouTube by Liter of Light. This source can help understand more
about the energy problems and its solutions. The infographic is aesthetically pleasing as it
includes different colors to make it more detailed, pictures to help the viewers understand and the
right amount of text.

Overall, the research is great and very informational but including more information rather than
how to obtain it could help improve it and make it clearer.

TASK 2

Now that you have seen the research from your partner, your teacher has asked you to formulate
an action plan for the next stages of the project. The next stage will research the use of science
and technology to solve resource management problems.

Q. You must do further research into the use of science and technology in solving resource
management problems.

For my research, I have chosen Africa as it doesn’t have many tapped reserves for energy
production. Using science and technology we can find the reserves and try to get oil from them
which can help produce energy and can also is traded with different countries for other resources
and wealth.

Choose one country or region you would focus on for this further research. Explain why your
choice is the best option for further research. (Criterion B - 4 marks)

TASK 3

SOI for the project is: “Scientific and technological innovation can be used to overcome
challenges of resource management.”

Q. 1: FORMILATE RQ – 4 Factors
To what extent can liter of light help extract oil to produce energy in Africa from 2021-2031?

Innovation, resource, Place and time

Q: 2: JUSTIFIY YOUR RQ ¾

My research question is valid and justified as it connects directly to the GC(mention it)

Q3. OUTLINE one problem or challenge you might face when carrying out your research. (2
marks)

While carrying out the research the people of Africa might not provide us complete information
on the oil reserves which would make it hard to collect the data for research. The citizens might
give biased information which might give one sided view, hence incomplete information.
