Advantages and disadvantages of mixed methods research

By using both approaches in a single research study provides more support and help for the
findings information. A sort of methodology, used for conducting research which involves
collecting, analyzing and integrating quantitative and qualitative analysis, is called the mixed
method research (Hesse-Biber, 2015). This approach is used for getting a better understanding of
the research problem than either of each one. Mixed methods of study provide the breadth and
depth understanding and corroboration to the researcher while offsetting the weakness inherent
to using each quantitative and qualitative approach.

Advantages of mixed method research are it provides the strengths that balance the weaknesses
of both quantitative and qualitative research, gives a more complete and comprehensive
understanding of the research problem, helps in developing better, more context specific
instruments and support to explain how causal processes work. Every method has both
advantage and limitations. Similarly, mixed method research has certain restriction such as it is
complex research design, it is time-consuming and expensive sort of research design, tough to
plan and implement and difficult to resolve the discrepancies which arise from the interpretation
of the findings (Kumar, 2019).

4. Advantages and disadvantages of qualitative and quantitative research method

Mixed method research used both qualitative and quantitative research method. Qualitative
research method provide more content which is useful for practical application, finding can be
generated through limited size of sample, higher possibilities for developing significant insights,
remove the potential for bias within the data, support to convert individual experiences into
usable data, use fluid operational structure, focuses on the purposes of a decision and less
expensive compared to the other research method are merits of qualitative research method.
Disadvantages of qualitative research method includes the it produces subjective data, tie
consuming method to collect data points, unable to offer statistical representations, researcher
required technical knowledge and skills and repetitive research efforts, and cannot offer data
rigidity (Regoli, 2019).

Advantage of quantitative research method are it provides reliable and repeatable information,
sample can be taken in a random way, results can be generalized, research can conduct remotely,
information can be analyzed in short time, and this research method is anonymous. And
disadvantages of quantitative research methods are researcher cannot follow up on any answers,
features of participants cannot apply to the general population, researcher are unable to
determine the participant responses are correct or not.
