INTRODUCTION
Learning Objective:
Leading small team ca be daunting in a big way. Every action counts and
there is no room slacking or flying under the radar. But there are advantages –
small teams provide more of an opportunity for immediate impact and a better
understanding of all of the issues impacting the team, things that are not
usually possible with a large team. Being trenched in the daily workings of a
small team also allows you to lead by example.
When you act with compassion and self-awareness, your employees will
emulate you. To keep your employees focused and inspired, here are some tips
to effectively lead them towards the same goals:
1. Have a clear value and purpose that binds your team together.
These values and purposes will guide you as your business grows.
Though values will differ per person, there should be one purposes that unites
and essentiality answers the question: What am I doing this? To help promote
this purpose, foster a culture that inspires your team to want to come to work.
Communicate the employee benefits of the business potentially growing, and
encourage the employees’ personal growth along with the company’s. The
positive empowerment will yield better employees, leading to a stronger team.
Try to seek new business in places that are most likely to yield a good fit
with your core values and your team’s competencies, and the give them the
best treatment. Customers who are bad fit will drain your team’s time and
enthusiasm, and are unlikely to be good ambassadors.
◘ Here’s a 10-step method how you can build your own effective small
team and deliver miracles in the process.
Example:
It’s highly trained small teams such as SEAL’s and Delta Force. There’s
nothing like the agility, focus, inventiveness, and esprit de corps of an effective
small team of committed and talented individuals willing to put the team’s
success ahead of everything else to deliver the seemingly impossible.
The same in business. If the task is routine but requires many resources,
big companies often win out. However, larger groups frequently have a hard
time maintaining teamwork and unity of purpose.
For breakthrough results, small is where it’s at. With a small team.
Tasks stay focused, everyone knows everyone, and nobody can slack or hide.
Michael Jordan once said “talent win games, but teamwork and intelligence
win championships.”
◘ (3) Three ways to stay effective in the present
7. Invest in Learning.
Help your people develop and grow as individuals, such as sending them
to training and industry conferences. They will become more valuable to you,
the team, and your customers.
We allow our people to buy – at our expenses – any books they want to
read and then have a monthly book club where we discuss what we learned.
8. Support innovation.
Your small size gives you an advantage over larger competitors – you can
afford to “do things that don’t scale.”
Give your team venues and time to share ideas and think about their
projects outside of their workspace. The results will amaze you.
SELF-CHECK!!
Please avoid copying the work or answers of your classmates or extracting your answers
from the google or internet. This assessment is intended to evaluate your learning.
There is no big difference between LIAR and CHEATER. They both commit sin. I may
not see what you are doing but I am sure Someone out there is watching you. Cheat and you will
not just insult your own knowledge but you will also be committing a crime. You are TOO FAR
HONORABLE TO CHEAT. – (ADAPTED)
