MODULE 1: NATURE OF INQUIRY AND RESEARCH

What’s More
1. Applied Research is a type of research that needs answer to a specific question.
2. Basic Research is a type of research that is purely direct application but expanding the nature of
understanding.
What I Have Learned
1. Research is about a detailed story or investigation of information that aims to answer the problem and to find
suggestion or solution about particular topic.
The two types of research are Applied Research and Basic Research.
What I Can Do

2. Define Research Problem, Collecting Data and Analyzing data
3. Ethics is important in research because it promotes the goals of the study, such as information, reality, and
error avoidance. Many ethical guidelines help to ensure that researchers can be considered accountable in front
of the public. Ethical research standards also aid in the development of public support for research. Many

research principles uphold a number of other significant moral and social standards, including social
responsibility, human rights, animal protection, legal enforcement, and public health and safety.

What I have Learned?

1. The kinds of qualitative research are Phenomenology, Ethnography, Case Study, Historical Analysis,
Grounded Theory and Content and Discourse Analysis.
2. Qualitative research has its strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, the researcher must think deeply about the
things, issues, and situations that surround him, be careful to perform research at the appropriate time and
location, collect or gather factual data in order to arrive at an honest result, and develop new researches.
(innovative)
3. A researcher must prevent plagiarized work, grammatical and language errors, excessive information, biased
hypotheses, and long research.

What I have learned

In formulating my research titles, I must remember that It should foretell the research paper's content, the
reader should find it interesting, it should contain important keywords, and not too long.
The possible sources of information are mass media communication, books, internet, journals, government
publications, professional periodicals, general periodicals, previous readings and work experience.
The guidelines in choosing a topic are interest in the subject matter, availability of information, timeliness and
relevance of the topic, limitations on the subject and personal resources.
The topics to be avoided are controversial topics, highly technical subjects, hard-to-investigate subjects, too
broad subjects, too narrow subject and vague subjects.
Broad topics must be narrowed down to specific one.
