QUESTION ONE [30 MARKS]

(a) Use Newton-Raphson method to find a real root near 2 of the equation x4-
11x+8 accurate to 3 decimal places [7 marks]
(b) Construct a forward difference table for the following polynomial
f (x )= y=x 3 + 2 x +1 for x=1, 2, 3, 4, 5 [5 marks]
(c) Determine the missing entry in the following table

(d) Evaluate the integral taking six intervals by using trapezoidal
rule up to 3 significant figures. [5 marks]
(e) Given f(2)=9, f(6) = 17, find an approximate value of f(5) by the method

(f) Find a real root of cosx-3x +5=0 correct to 4 decimal places. [5 marks]

(a) Find a root of the equation x6-x-1=0, using bisection method up to the 5th
iteration, accurate to 4 decimal places. [12 marks]
