PRESENT TENSE
We use the present simple to express habits, facts, thoughts and feelings. It is also used with general statements and
actions that are repeated. It is formed with the base form of the verb, except the third person singular where you have to
add an "s".

Key words: often, always, never, every day, month,..., usually, sometimes, generally, normally, rarely, seldom,
whenever, on Mondays, Tuesdays,...

A. Present Simple Negation

I, YOU + PLURAL
They go to school.
I like oranges.
We hate peppermint.
You have a cold.
Monkeys (= They) eat bananas.
Bob and I (= We) go shopping.
Jim and Carol (=They) sing a song.
HE, SHE, IT + S
He wants an ice cream.
She likes hot dogs.
It drinks milk.
The dog (= It) hates cats.
Ann (= She) hates chewing gums.
Bob (= He) speaks English.
NOTE:
- es after - s / - ch / - sh
Examples: passes - watches - finishes
- ies if there is a consonant before the y
Examples: study - studies / carry - carries / but play - plays

DON'T (do not) + VERB
They don't go to school.

DOESN'T (does not) + VERB
He doesn't want an ice cream.

TO BE, CAN, MUST --> VERB + NOT
They are not (aren't) at home.
The boys are not (aren't) in the park.

B. DAILY ACTIVITY

Apa itu daily activity? Itu adalah rutinitas sehari-hari yang berurutan sejak aktivitas dimulai di pagi hari hingga berakhir di
malam hari. Semua kata-kata dalam daily activity menggunakan format simple present tense karena dilakukan dalam
waktu saat ini dan masih berlangsung.

Ciri-ciri dari daily activity dengan simple present tense adalah:

 Menggunakan kata kerja dasar (play, work, swim, dan sebagainya)

 Kata kerja tetap menyesuaikan dengan subjek
 Menggunakan keterangan frekuensi (adverb of frequency)

Contoh: always, usually, often, sometimes, hardly ever, rarely, never occasionally

Example of daily activity in paragraph:

My name is Jojo, I’m a student at university. Here is my daily routine. I always wake up at
6.00 in the morning. I usually have breakfast at 6.30. I order online transportation to
university at 8.00. After that, I usually start studying at 8.30.

At noon, I always have lunch with my friends. After the lunch break, I join the class again. I
finish the study at 4.15 in the afternoon. For refreshing, I sometimes go to the cinema with
my friends in the evening.
 I usually have dinner with my family at 7.00. And then we spend time together watch
television or discuss interesting issues of the day. I rarely go to bed before 11 o’clock. I
often go to bed at midnight.
