THE DEFINITION OF PREPOSITION

Preposisi adalah kata yang digabungkan


A preposition is a word that is dengan kata benda atau kata ganti untuk
combined with a noun or membentuk frasa yang menjelaskan kata
pronoun to form a phrase that kerja, kata benda, atau kata sifat
describes a verb, noun, or
adjective.
RULES FOR USE OF PREPOSITIONS

3. 1. Prepositions cannot be followed by verbs. If you want to use a verb, you


must use it in gerund form.

Example : He’s been banned from driving for six months

2. When object of preposition is in the form of an interrogative pronoun (What,


Who, Whom, Which, Where, etc) The prepositions are usually at the beginning or
end of a sentence.

Example : What are you thinking of?

3. When object of preposition is in the form of a relative pronoun 'that', the


preposition is at the end of the sentence

Example : Here is the magazine that you asked for.


4. When object of preposition is in the form of the infinitive (to + verb), the
preposition comes after the infinitive.
Example : I need a book to write on.

5. In some sentences, prepositions are attached with a verb.


Example : I hate being laughed at.

6. In some cases, the prepositions come before the sentence. Usually in the
form of an interrogative sentence.
Example : For whom is this letter?

I didn’t go home at night. (Aku tidak pulang pada malam hari.)


We will go in March. (Kita akan pergi pada bulan Juni.)
I don’t have an extra course on Monday. (Aku tak ikut les tambahan
pada hari Senin.)

I’ll finish it before lunch. (Aku akan menyelesaikannya sebelum makan


siang.)

(In, On, At, Under, Between, Among, Beside, Next to)
