What is a preposition?

A preposition is a word that


use before a noun , noun
phrase or a pronoun
connecting it to another
word.So it expresses a
relationship between two
word classes.
The preposition shows relationship
between;
1. Noun and Noun
Ex:- The boy is near the gate.

2.Noun and Pronoun


Ex:- My pen is with him.

3.Adjective and Noun


Ex:- He is weak in science

4.Verb and Noun.


Ex:- He trembled with fear.
Meanings of prepositions.
It is difficult to specify all the meanings of
prepositions.The some preposition can have
several meanings and also same meaning
can be expressed by different prepositions.

That’s why we classify prepositions as,


 Prepositions for time
 Preposition for place
 Prepositions for Direction/movement.
Prepositions of Time

Particular time of the day/month/year


She gets up early in the morning.
