WIRELESS CHARGING FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE

1. INTRODUCTION:
Wireless charging of the EV batteries offers a number of advantages compared to the wired counterpart;
indeed, wireless charging makes it

i) Unnecessary any plug, cable or outlet

ii) Friendly the charging process

iii) Fearless the transfer of energy in any environmental condition, and so on.

For these reasons, WPTSs are expected to play a major role in the future charging process for the EVs. But
major disadvantage of this system is suppose we can’t drive the vehicle in road without transmitting pad .we
can overcome this problem by the method battery switching. So that we can drive the electric vehicle in
traditional road.

2. OBJECTIVE:
The main objective of our proposal is:

 Wireless inductive charging allows an electric vehicle [EV] to automatically charge without the
need of cables By using inductive charging method and Alternative battery switching (Li ion
battery).

Advantages of using Li ion battery:

 Quick and efficient Charging
 Lightweight. 50-60% less weight than lead-acid equivalent.
 Longest Life.
 More Usable Capacity.
 Constant Power.
 Temperature Tolerant.
 Charging - Fast & Safe.

 To lower energy consumption.

 To Design a electric vehicle which budget friendly and eco-friendly.
 Development of WPT charger for an electric city-car situated in the Laboratory of Electric
Systems

3. METHODOLOGY:
Inductive charging:

Inductive charging works by creating a magnetic-resonance field between a transmitting pad on the ground
(which is physically connected to the grid) and a receiving pad on the underside of the vehicle. Wireless signals
sent between the vehicle and charging system initiate and stop charging.
Alternative for charging

Battery Switching:

Battery swapping is a technique that consists of swapping a discharged electric car battery with one that is
already charged. This would replace recharging, thus eliminating long refueling times.

Why Li ion Battery?

 Lithium-ion batteries have a high power-to-weight ratio, high energy efficiency and good high-
temperature performance.
 In practice, this means that the batteries hold a lot of energy for their weight, which is vital for electric
cars – less weight means the car can travel further on a single charge.
 Fully electric vehicles require a large lithium-ion battery to store energy and power the motor that
propels the car, according to Insider. The lithium-ion battery packs in an electric car are chemically
similar to the ones found in cell phones and laptops.

Lithium-ion batteries:

 Lithium-ion batteries are widely preferred for electric car use due to the their superior range per
charge.
 They are also less expensive than nickel and they have a low discharge rate of approximately
five per cent per month compared to 30 per cent per month from nickel-metal hydride batteries.
 To prolong the life of a lithium-ion battery, they should be charged early and often they should
never be depleted below their minimum voltage and they should be kept cool.
