Chapter 12: Pakistan After Jinnah

Contributions:
- 6 Year Plan:
Agriculture, power, industry, and transport.
Played an important part in bringing about economic development in Pakistan.
- Foreign aid – wheat, CENTO
Problems:

- Conservative pressure
- Campaigns against Ahmadis – Forced to expel Zafarullah Khan (Foreign Minister)
- Improper handling of drought – led to riots
- Resulted in many changes in personnel
- Unable to make constitution
- Little constitutional development could take place because of these problems

Political instability:

Bogra and Constituent Assembly repealed PRODA and attempted to restrict powers of the Governor-
General.
Ghulam Muhammad dissolved assembly in response.

Malik Ghulam Muhammad resigned in 1955 due to ill health and handed power over to Major General
Iskander Mirza.
