FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE TEST – LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM (MPI)
OVERVIEW:
A faulty fuel delivery system can cause failure to start, hard starting, rough idle, lack of power and poor fuel economy. A fuel pressure test can indicate or confirm a problem
with fuel delivery to injectors.

TOOLS REQUIRED:
• Fuel pressure gauge with fuel rail adaptor (P/N: FPG2200) Return Fuel Delivery Returnless Fuel Delivery

PREPARATION:
Install fuel pressure gauge adaptor
1. Remove fuel pump relay.
2. Start engine and wait until fuel in the line is used up and engine stalls.
3. Turn Ignition “Off”, disconnect negative battery terminal.
4. Disconnect fuel line from fuel rail and install fuel pressure gauge adaptor.
5. Connect fuel pressure gauge and hose to fuel pressure gauge adaptor.
6. Turn Ignition “On”, and ensure there is no fuel leaks.

PROCEDURE:
1. Start engine.
2. Record the running fuel pressure at idle, then increase the engine to 2000rpm
FUEL PRESSURE TEST
and hold steady to get fuel pressure reading. IDLE 2000 RPM AFTER 20 MIN. (KOEO)
3. Turn off engine and record the fuel pressure after 5 minutes.

RESULTS:

  
Refer to vehicle specifications.
• Pass - Normal fuel pressure at idle, 2000rpm and after 20 min (KOEO) – 55
psi.
• Fail – Fuel below specifications.
• Possible causes – Check valve, pressure regulator and/or fuel injector

WHEN TO USE:
This procedure can be performed for the following conditions;
• Hard start/No start
• Rough idle
• Lack of power Normal fuel pressure @ Idle and Low fuel pressure Excessive residual
2000rpm pressure loss

*Refer to Service Information for vehicle specifications
