Calculations:
Rooftop area =30x25 ft
750 sq ft = 69.6773 sqm =70 sq m approx.

Average daily rainfall of mumbai = total rainfall / no. of days

= 783.036 mm / 24 days
= 32.6265 mm/days
= 0.0327 M/days
Q=AXIXR

Where ,A is quantity of runoff in M cube ,I is the intensity of rainfall in M/day,A is the surface
area in sq m and R is coefficient of runoff [in this case the rooftop is concrete slab and the run-
off coefficient is taken as 0.9 (reference : https://www.usgbc.org/resources/homes-table-8-com-
mon-runoff-coefficients)]
Q=AXIXR 2.09 m
= 70 X 0.0327 X 0.9
= 2.0601 M cube

If we consider min 3 days of collected water storage can

sustain a family of 5 for 1 to 2 days
collection tank size = 2.0601x3 = 6.1803 M cube
2.1 m

[considering tank height 2.1 m and buffer clear space of

30 cm and a cylindrical tank ]
v = volume of cylinder
v = 3.14 x r [sq] x h
6.1803 = 3.14 x r [sq] x 1.8
r [sq] = 1.093
r = 1.045 m
d = 2.09 m

Calculations:
Total No. of Residents: 5

For Individual:
Bathing (Considering bucket) = 20 Litres

Flushing = 20 Litres

Drinking = 05 Litres

Other Activities = 15 Litres

Total Water Consumption = 60 Litres

For whole Family:

So total used water = 5 x 60 = 300Litres.

+ Washing Clothes = 25 Litres

+ Washing Utensils = 25 Litres

Total Water Consumption = 350Litres per day

Water Consumption(month) =350 x 30

= 10500Litres per month

Hence,
10500 –6180 = 4320 Litres.

By using Rainwater;
Requirement of 10500 Litres,
from external sources can be reduced to 6180 Litres.[reduced by 59 percent]
