Dialogue 1
A: Excuse me! Is there a hospital here?
B: Yes, there's one near here.
A: How far is it to the hospital?
B: It's not far, maybe about 250 yards.
A: Can you give me directions to the hospital?
B: It's that way. Go straight ahead. Take a right at the junction. Take the second left. You
can see the hospital on your right.
A: Thank you.

A: Can you give me directions to the Chinese restaurant?
B: Sure. Do you know the supermarket ?
A: Yes.
B: When you get to the supermarket, take the second left. You'll pass a cinema and the
Chinese restaurant is next to the cinema on your right.
B: Thank you very much.
A: Go slow, there are many schools on the way.
B: I really want to thank you for your help.
A: Not at all.

Follow the directions that "B" gives to the Chinese restaurant and mark the Chinese
restaurant on the following map. Mark the supermarket and the cinema too.

A: Can you tell me how to get to the “Osusala” from here?
B: I’m sorry. I’m not from here. So I don’t know my way around. But I know a pharmacy near
here.
A: How far is it from here?
B: It’s about one kilometer.
A: Will you please tell me where the pharmacy is?
B: Go straight and turn right after the petrol shed. Take this road. Go past the car park. You
can see the town hall on your left and you can see the pharmacy on your right in front of
the town hall.
A: Many thanks.

2. Read the following description and complete the data sheet

Japan is an East Asian country located in the Pacific Ocean. Tokyo is the capital and
Yokohama and Osaka are the other popular big cities. There are 128 million people in Japan
and it is the 10th largest population in the world.
Japanese is the major language. However English is spoken in Tokyo and other large
cities but it is less usual in rural areas. Shintoism and Buddhism are the main religions.
There is a Christian minority.
There is a red dot on the white background in their national flag and that red dot is
known as “Hinomaru” (sun disc). The white part stands for peace and honesty. The red dot
is for hardness, bravery, strength and valour.
Japan has the world’s third largest economy and their main exports are vehicles,
computer parts, chemicals, scientific instruments and watches. Their monetary unit is yen.
Swimming, soccer and baseball are the popular sports among boys and swimming,
ballet dance, tennis and badminton are popular sports among girls in Japan.
The head of state is Emperor.
