SLIDE 7:

CONDITION OF PALESTINIANS
At least 212 people, including 61 children, have been killed in Gaza since the
latest violence began more than a week ago. Some 1,500 Palestinians were
also wounded.
More than 52,000 Palestinians have been displaced by Israeli air strikes
that have destroyed or badly damaged nearly 450 buildings in the Gaza
Strip, the U.N. aid agency said on Tuesday.

HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION BY THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT:

 Killings of unarmed civilians, mostly children and students.
 Entering private homes, places of worship, schools and other
institutions without warrant or prior judicial approval.
 Demolishing homes of accused or sealing such homes before putting the
accused on trial.
 Subjecting individuals to illegal searches and seizures and detaining
individuals for prolonged periods without charges.
 The taking of land by Israeli authorities from the Palestinians and the
reclassification of Palestinian communal areas as state land.
 Cruel and inhuman treatment of the Palestinian inhabitants.

Less than a month ago, Human Rights Watch released a report entitled A
Threshold Crossed: Israeli Apartheid and the Crimes of Apartheid and
Persecution. The report “demonstrates that Israel is carrying out apartheid”
against the Palestinian people. At the time, there was almost no reaction from
the world’s power-brokers.

SLIDE 8:
INDIA AT UN SUPPORTS “JUST PALESTINE CAUSE”
India on Sunday called for immediate de-escalation of the situation between
Israel and Palestine at a UNSC meeting.
While refusing to toe the Israeli line on the conflict, India’s comments also
point to its evolving position on the larger Israel-Palestine issue.
T.S. Tirumurti, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN said: “In
conclusion, India reiterates its strong support for the just Palestinian cause
and its unwavering commitment to the two-state solution.”

GLOBAL RESPONSES:

1. Biden Supports Israel-Gaza Cease-Fire, as Fighting Rages into

Second Week– The New York times

President Biden for the first-time expressed support for a cease-fire between
Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza on Monday, as the devastating rocket and
missile war there gave no sign of easing after the deaths of dozens of
Palestinian children.

But he also reiterated that Israel had a right to defend itself, stopping short of
publicly calling on Israel to change its approach despite rising international
condemnation.

2. UN chief calls for immediate end to 'utterly appalling' Israel-

Palestine violence – UN News
The Secretary-General feared the violence could have devastating far-reaching
consequences.

“It has the potential to unleash an uncontainable security and humanitarian

crisis and to further foster extremism, not only in the Occupied Palestinian
Territory and Israel, but in the region as a whole, potentially creating a new
locus of dangerous instability,” he said.

3. PM Benjamin Netanyahu vows to continue strike as long as

necessary.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underscored that resolve on
Sunday, saying that he will do "whatever it takes to restore order," and that "it
will take some time." On Saturday, Netanyahu said it will "respond forcefully"
in Gaza "until the security of our people is reinstated and restored," and said
the country is trying to avoid civilian casualties from its strikes

Israel’s answer to Hamas’s missile attacks is both defence and offense. It has
built a defence system known as Iron Dome, which has intercepted many
missiles. And Israel has launched bombing attacks on the buildings and
underground tunnels where Hamas stores its missiles. The point of the
bombings is to degrade the Hamas threat.
