Name : Fonzy Adriane M. Rone Class Schedule/Date: September 20, 2021
Course & Year: BEED-1 Semester/A.Y: 2021-2022 Course Title: IC 1 ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE Instructor: Romeo L. Bernales, Jr.
DIRECTIONS: Define each of the following words or terms.
1. PARASITISM- the practice of living as a parasite in or on another
organism. 2. MUTUALISM- is defined as an interaction between individuals of different species that results in positive effects on per capita reproduction and/or survival of the interacting populations. 3. ABIOTIC FACTORS- is a non-living part of an ecosystem that shapes its environment. In a terrestrial ecosystem, examples might include temperature, light, and water. 4. TEMPERATURE- is the measure of hotness or coldness expressed in terms of any of several scales, including Fahrenheit and Celsius. 5. PHOTOSYNTHESIS- is the process by which plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create oxygen and energy in the form of sugar. 6. PRODUCERS- Plants are producers. They make their own food, which creates energy for them to grow, reproduce and survive. Being able to make their own food makes them unique; they are the only living things on Earth that can make their own source of food energy. Of course, they require sun, water and air to thrive. 7. HETEROTROPHS- is an organism that eats other plants or animals for energy and nutrients. 8. DECOMPOSERS- An organism, often a bacterium, fungus, or invertebrate that feeds on and breaks down dead plant or animal matter, making organic nutrients available to the ecosystem. 9. DECOMPOSITION- It is the process whereby the dead tissues break down and are converted into simpler organic forms. These are the food source for many of the species at the base of ecosystems. 10. ENDOTHERMS- so called warm-blooded animals; that is, those that maintain a constant body temperature independent of the environment. The endotherms primarily include the birds and mammals; however, some fish are also endothermic. Assessment 2: Environmental Issues and Concern a. Title of the Programme/Initiative/Innovation “Compostable coatings for packaging” b. Summary of the Programme/Initiative/Innovation - A coating with silicate and biopolymers that can be used in many food packaging applications, protecting biopolymer packaging and food against premature degradation and is fully compostable. c. Background Information or reasons why you created the Programme/Initiative/Innovation - The new coatings can improve the performance of bio-based and biodegradable packaging, which alone cannot guarantee the required minimum shelf life of many food products. d. Time Frame -By the end of the year 2022, we can produce at least 200 compostable coating to each barangay in the Philippines. e. Key knowledge, skills, attitudes/values, and behaviours that the school or community expects to develop from this programme/initiative/innovation -It can teach them to recycle more, and be more mindful in throwing their garbage anywhere. f. Activities ( includes strategies/activities of implementation, and each brief information of each activity) -I think I will request some government agencies to help me spread my study to each and everyone in the Philippines and teach them how to make it and how to share it to the world. g. Propose Programme for Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms -ME to Government agencies then to the community . h. Benefits/impacts/positive outcomes of the programme/initiative/innovation -It can improve the performance of bio-based and biodegradable packaging i. Plan for Sustainability and plan for scaling-up/expansion -Request government agencies like DENR to provide some staff or crew to help sustain the said project.
