Dear Sir,
Reference to your letter No. 72/ M.Phil, dated: 30-3-2021 regarding evaluation report of M.Phil.
Thesis of Mr. Sajid U Rahman entitled: The Quran is the word of Almighty Allah. Critical
study of “The collection of the Quran” by john Burton, is as under:
1. Above-entitled thesis is an original work.
2. Thesis consist on abstract, introduction, literature review, objectives of the study and
research methodology applied in the dissertation. More over thesis is divided into 4
chapters.
3. In 1st chapter scholar presents the introduction of orientalism, john Burton and his book
“’the collection of Quran”. In this chapter scholar presents the theories of John Burton
about the collection of Quran and successfully defended his objections.
4. 2nd chapter is about the critical analysis of John Burton’s objection on the Quran regarding
Ahkam. In this chapter scholar describes the Burton’s objections on the Quran due to
disagreement among different school of thoughts and scholar replied to his objections with
solid arguments, moreover, scholar presents the difference between Quran and Hadith and
also presents the analysis of Burton’s objection on saba Ahruf.
5. 3rd chapter of this thesis deals with John Burton,s objection about naskh (Abrigation). and
4th chapter is about the process of the compilation of the Quran in both chapters scholar works
hard to defend the objection and presents the clear picture of Islamic believes.
Keeping in view the above mention report I recommend the thesis for award of degree after
completing necessary criteria in this regard.
