Epinephrine
Therapeutic class :Is based on use\ bronchodilator, vasopressor,cardiac stimulant , local
anesthetic(adjunct),topical antihemorrhagic,antiglaucoma drug.

Pharmacologic class : adrenaline

Mechanism of action : acts directly on both alpha and beta receptors; it is the most potent activator of alpha
receptors.

Use : relief acute asthmatic attack , restore cardiac rhythm in cardiac arrest , relief hypersensitivity and anaphylactic
reactions, Used topically to control superficial bleeding .

Adverse effects : Nasal burning or stinging, dryness of nasal mucosa, sneezing , fear, anxiety, tremors, severe
headache , Bronchial and pulmonary edema , Metabolic acidoses.

Administration route :1-Inhalation 2- Instillation (Nasal) 3- Instillation (Ocular) 4- Subcutaneous 5- intravenous


therapy (IV)

Side effects : 1- difficulty breathing 2- vomiting 3- nausea 4-warmth.

Black box warning : Tissue injury with extravasation due to IV and can lead to death- black box warning.

Contraindications : Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines , traumatic , arrhythmias , organic heart or brain


disease

Drug interaction : 1- The risk or severity of hypertension can be increased when Epinephrine is combined
with Aceclofenac. 2- The serum concentration of Acenocoumarol can be increased when it is combined
with Epinephrine. 3- The therapeutic efficacy of Acetohexamide can be decreased when used in
combination with Epinephrine.

Food interaction : No interactions found.

Nursing interventions : 1- Check BP repeatedly when epinephrine is administered IV during first 5 min
then q3–5min until stabilized 2- Monitor BP, pulse,respiration
and urinary output and observe patient closely following IV administration 3- Keep prescriber informed of
any changes in intake-output ratio. 4- Advise patient to report bronchial irritation, nervousness, or
sleeplessness

‫آﻟﯿﺔ اﻟﻌﻤﻞ‪ :‬ﯾﻌﻤﻞ ﻣﺒﺎﺷﺮة ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﺴﺘﻘﺒﻼت أﻟﻔﺎ وﺑﯿﺘﺎ ؛ إﻧﮫ اﻟﻤﻨﺸﻂ اﻷﻛﺜﺮ ﻓﺎﻋﻠﯿﺔ ﻟﻤﺴﺘﻘﺒﻼت أﻟﻔﺎ‪.‬‬
