    Munyati power station control room

    Munyati power station has five 20MW generators and and they have a rated voltage of 11KV.
    The output of the generator is fed into an 11 KV bus bars and then stepped to 88KV and fed
    into the 88KV bus bars. The 11 kv and 66 kv have a main and reserve bus bars. The main bus
    bar is normally used and the reserve bus bar is used during maintenance and or when main
    bus bar has developed a fault.
    Coupling transformers
    The 88 KV line is linked to the 11KV bus bars through coupling transformers. There four
    coupling transformers which are named UBT1, UBT2, UBT3 and UBT4. UBT1 and UBT4
    are rated at 25MVA and UBT2 and UBT3 are rated at 10MVA. The coupling transformers
    are used to step up or step down voltage on exportation and importation of electricity. The
    10MVA coupling transformers have neutral earth on the 88KV side and the 11kv side for the
    sake of importing and exporting electricity.
