220kV Substation Sub Division, Poovanthuruthu

ABSTRACT

The 220 kV Substation Subdivision, Poovanthuruth is one of the
subdivisions coming under the Transmission Division, Poovanthurthu and
Transmission Circle, Poovanthurthu. 220 kV Substation Poovanthuruthu is
a grid station supplying power to various 110 kV and 66 kV Substations.
There are three numbers of 220kV feeders, one from Moozhiyar
(Sabarigiri) power house and the other one from Brahmapuram Diesel
Power Plant. This station is also connected with NTPCs Rajiv Gandhi
Combined Cycle Power Plant, Kayamkulam and Idukki Power Station
through New Pallom switching station. The station is situated in
Panachikkadu Village, Kottayam Taluk, Kottayam District. The Traction
Substation of the Indian Railways at Chingavanam fed through 110 kV PL-
TN feeder and M/s MRF fed through 110 kV PL-MR feeder, are supplied
with power at EHT level from our station.

The capacity of 220kV substation is 400MVA. Two numbers of 200MVA,
220/110kV, three nos. of 63MVA, 110/66kV Transformers and two
numbers of 10MVA, 66/11kV Transformers are in service in this substation.
Three 220kV feeders are connected to the 220kV bus and stepped down to
110kV through 200MVA transformers to form a 110kV bus and all 110kV
feeders are connected to this 110kV bus. Again the 110kV voltage is
stepped down to 66kV voltage through 63MVA transformers to form a
66kV bus and all 66kV feeders and the primary side of 10MVA
transformers are connected to this bus. The 10MVA transformers step down
the 66kV voltage to 11kV Bus and all 11kV feeders are connected to this
bus. All the eight numbers of 11kV feeders emanating from this station feed
to the distribution network in and around Poovanthuruthu area which
convey power to the distribution wing.
