Question
Questions that will be given consist of exploration, production,
drilling, and trivia about petroleum. Also, additional material
about bioenergy. Question’s source could be from Petroleum
Engineering Textbooks, Schlumberger Oilfield Glossary,
PetroWiki Glossary, Schlumberger Oilfield Review Defining
Series, The Prize, Glossary of Bioenergy Terms
(bit.ly/BioenergyTerms), Glossary of Biofuel
(http://biofuel.org.uk/glossary.html) and other valid sources.

Toss Up Question
This question will be used for the elimination and semifinal round.

For this type of question, the moderator will toss up a question and the player
may buzz in (by pressing the online buzzer) to answer the question as soon as
the moderator begins reading.

Once a player has buzzed in, the moderator first will recognize the player who
buzzed in and declared verbally the team's name.

After the moderator mentions the team's name, the player is given 5 seconds
to answer. Answering after that 5 second or no answer will be considered
wrong.

If one buzzes before the moderator has finished reading the question, the
moderator will stop reading and the player is given 5 seconds to answer. If the
player gets it wrong, the moderator will not repeat the question and the game
will continue to the next question.

Players have 5 seconds to buzz in after the moderator has finished reading the
question. If no team buzzes in, the question will be considered burnt, right
after the timekeeper said 'up'.

First answer is the only answer that will be accepted by the committee and
judges

The correct answers will be awarded 10 points each while 5 points will be
taken from your score for wrong answers. It is considered 0 points if no one
answered.
Bonus Question
This question is an extra question(s) that will be given by the
moderator for the team who answers the toss up question correctly.

This question is a long answer question, which is answered by

describing, mentioning, explaining, comparing, giving reasons, or in
other similar forms.
The team is given 15 seconds to answer. Answering after that 15
second or no answer will be considered wrong.
The team is allowed to answer before the moderator has finished
reading the question, but there will be no question reading
repetition.

The correct answers will be rewarded 10 points each while no points

will be given for unanswered questions or wrong answers.

If the team answers it incorrectly, the game will continue to the next
toss up question.

There will be a change in points based on the judge’s preference

towards the team’s answer.

Process Engineering & Energy Days 2022 10

Puzzle Question
This fun game will be the first part of the final round. The puzzle type is a
jigsaw puzzle that consists of 3 x 3 tiles with each tile containing a question.

This game will begin with a toss-up question and each team will battle to
answer the question. The fastest team that buzzes in is given 5 seconds to
answer the toss up question. If the chosen team answers it correctly, they will
get the chance to choose the tile. If the answer is incorrect, the moderator will
give the next toss up question, and the question will be considered burnt.

If the answer is correct then the tile will be opened and shown as a piece of a
puzzle and that team will be given 5 seconds to guess or answer for the
complete puzzle picture.

However, if the time is up and no answer from the team or the team answers
it incorrectly, the tile will not be opened, which means the other team can
choose and answer that tile at their turn.

When complete, the puzzle will show a full picture. The clue related to the
picture will be given at the beginning of the puzzle game and every three tiles
that are already open. So, there are 4 clues that will be given for one complete
puzzle.

If a team has already answered the complete puzzle or there is no team can
guess the complete puzzle until 5 tiles have opened, then the game will
continue to the next puzzle.

Points for this game are 10 points for each toss up question answered
correctly, but -5 points for those answered wrongly and no points for those
unanswered. If a team succeeds in guessing/answering the puzzle’s picture,
they will be awarded 30 points for each puzzle.

Players will have 15 minutes to have fun collecting points from this game.

For example: Team A, B, and C are playing puzzle game in round 3, where
team B is the fastest team that buzzes. Team B also answers the question
correctly before 5 seconds. Then, Team B chooses one of the tiles in the
puzzle. If team B answers the given question correctly, they will be given 10
points and the tile that they have chosen will be opened and shown as a
piece of the puzzle. If team B guesses the complete puzzle correctly, they will
be given 30 additional points and the game will continue to the next puzzle.
However, if team B guesses the complete puzzle incorrectly, there will be no
additional points. So, they just get 10 points. Then the game proceeds to the
next question.
Betting Point Question
This game will be the second part of the final round. There will be 20
toss-up questions for this game.

Before reading the questions, the moderator will ask each team how
much they want to bet. Minimum points for betting: 5 points.

Each team is given 5 seconds to discuss the betting point

Players may buzz in during the reading of questions or will be given 5

seconds to buzz in after the moderator has finished reading the ques-
tions.

If one team answer correctly, they will be rewarded 2 times the team's
betting point and additional from another team's betting point

If the team answers it incorrectly, there is a deduction of points equal to

the team’s betting point

For examples:
Team A, B, and C are playing betting point games in round 3. where team
A bets 5 points, team B bets 6 points, and team C bets 7 points. When the
moderator read the question, team C buzzed in the bell first. Team C
answers the question correctly. Then they win the bet and they get 25
points (from 2×7 + 5 + 6). Otherwise, team B and C lose the bet and lose
the points they bet. Then the game proceeds to the next question.

In the next question, team A, B, and C bet 5 points and the first team that
buzzes in the bell is team A. team A answers the question incorrectly.
Then team A will lose the points they bet and there are no points deduc-
tion for team B and C. The game proceeds to the next question.
Grading Point Question
This game will be the last part of the final round. For this game, play-
ers will battle to answer the question.

Players may buzz in during the reading of questions or will be given

15 seconds to buzz in after the moderator has finished reading the
questions. Answering after that 15 second or no answer will be con-
sidered wrong.

There will be 10 questions with grading points (+10 points) for each
question, based on the order of the reading. The first question will
be valued with 10 points, 2nd question will be valued with 20 points,
3rd question will be valued with 30 points, etc.

If players give the wrong answer, half of the question’s points will be
taken from their score and the questions will be battled by the other
team.

For example: Team A, B, and C are playing Grading Point Question

game in the last part of final round, where team B answer correctly
the 3rd question. Then they get 30 points. However, if team B
answers the question incorrectly, then 15 points will be taken from
their score and the question will be battled by team A and C.

Correct Answer

The moderator will accept only the first answer given by a

player, except for multiple answer questions. Only the first
portion of a multi-part answer to a singular question will be
considered, even if the rest of the answer contains the cor-
rect response.

For example, if a player says “Coal, CHP” the judge will con-
sider only “Coal”. The moderator/judge(s) reserves the right
to request participants to repeat and/or elaborate their
answer. Modifying words before the first noun of response
are considered as one answer with the noun.

SEMUN
Description
Student Energy Model United Nations (SE-MUN) is a competition that simulates the
International United Nations conference for undergraduate and high school students.
SE-MUN also helps students to learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United
Nations. Each delegate will represent different countries to discuss, negotiate, and construct
a solution for global issues related to the theme. Delegates will be given a study guide before
the conference and must create a position paper to assert their assigned country's position
on the issue. This year, SE-MUN will raise awareness to utilize renewable energy in developing
states by building international cooperation to ensure inclusivity and access to renewable
energy technology to these nations. All the discussions at the conference will focus on the
technical and geopolitical aspects of the topic.

Scoring Parameter

The position paper will be scored according to

The context of the paper regarding the depth of information

on the policy analysis and stance that the country will take.

Conformity to the formats given above

Correct spelling, grammar, and vocabulary

Important Notes
to be Noticed
What should you put inside your position paper?

As stated above, your position paper should at least include the

background of the issue, national interests of your country, the
national policies of your country, and your views on the
components of a possible solution.

The background of your issue should include the suggested solu-

tions and questions that the solution must answer regarding the
problem that is given

The national interest is what a country wants to happen in the

world (for example, Somalia, an underdeveloped country plagued
by piracy, wants to reduce the occurrence of piracy to stabilize its
government). These interests are not subject to compromise, but
usually idealize the goal or method of solving a particular problem.

National policy is an attempt by the country to protect its interests

(for example, Somalia tried to sign a new extradition treaty in order
to combat piracy). These political positions are usually open to
negotiations.

Your view of the possible solution components is your response to

the "Suggested Solutions" and "Questions That the Solution Must
Answer" in the background guide. Although these sections
provide flexibility, you must consider the interests of your country.
Possible resolutions should be in line with your country’s national
interests and current national policies
Chairs
The committee chairs consist of a Head Chair and two
Assistant Chairs. The Chairs are the substantive expert of
the committee and will have complete control of the
proceedings and the maintenance of order throughout the
conference. They oversee the debate and do extensive
amounts of pre-conference preparation such as
developing the study guides. The Chairs also principally
act as a judge in deciding which delegates will be
presented with awards.
