POINTS TO REMEMBER
Romantic music refers to Western music composed in the late 18th century
to the 19th century. Composers and artists believed in letting their imagination and
passion be seen through their works.
Nationalism is reflected most in the instrumental music of the Romantic Era.

Activity 1: Is it a Fact or a Bluff?


Directions: Read each statement carefully. Identify whether it is tue or not.
Write FACT if is the statement is true and BLUFF if it is not.

1. Violin continued to be the most important musical instrument during the Roman-
tic Era.
2. Ludwig Van Beethoven bridged the music from Classical to Romantic Era by
expressing his passion and emotions.
3. Chopin became the most famous violin virtuoso in the world.
4. Short piano pieces in ABA form that shows emotion were developed during the
Romantic Era.
5. Paganini was known as the “Poet of the Piano”.
6. Piano music is an instrumental composition that conveys images or scenes to
tell a short story without text or lyrics.
7. Impromptu is a short free-form musical composition usually for a solo
instrument like piano.
8. Nocturne is an instrumental composition of pensive, dreamy mood for the violin.
9. Nationalism is one of the main features of this era. This is evidently shown in
some compositions made by Romantic composers.
10. The music during Romantic Era was used forms borrowed from Classical music
and made them bigger longer songs and more instruments.

POINTS TO REMEMBER
Emotions, variety of musical style in compositions, freedom of expression
are only a few things that characterized the music of the Romantic period. It was
during the heights of popularity of Ludwig Van Beethoven, one of the great
composers during the Classical period made a great distinction to change the
phase of composing music by bridging the music from Classical to Romantic era.
