BSN 309 MAD RLE

Reflective Paper Day 1

Our first synchronous class for the Maladaptive behavior Related learning experience (RLE)
course that was dated for only two days and included four sections from the third-year nursing
college students. Given these limited amount of time as I have not expected with a RLE course, I
was intrigued on how the topics will fit within that time span and its relative connection to the
Mother Theresa’s Home that Care, Inc. which I presume a coordinated organization or connected
with the university. Since there wasn’t any brief orientation informed to us regarding the syllabus
for this class to prepare. However, these inquiry thoughts were met by the orientation at the
beginning of the class in which the coordinating guest speakers and professors. The following
female speakers specifically Ma’am Kathryn and Ma’am Teresita discussed the certain schedule
of activities and proper documentation such as charting that distinguishably differs from a public
general hospital to a mental health facility.

During the discussion of documentation, Ma’am Kathryn primarily emphasized the

importance of the law of Republic Mental health act 11036 which was mandated in 2019 as a
national agenda to promote mental health programs to be made accessible to workplace and
school program. In order to address the stigma revolving around mental health and its health care
services that appears to be discriminative and prejudice treatment care that tends to perceive as
negatively abusing the mental health condition of the patients. Although, this was relatively
noted in Ma’am Teresita’s discussion regarding the imperative actions done in the Mo. Teresa’s
Home Care. She mentioned in the class that the mental health facility had made changes in line
with the national agenda through modifying such name of their isolation room to OBS as an
exemplification to reduce the stigma in simple ways that may bound the public to regard these
areas to reserve a poor service and environment that a patient cannot be properly treated. I
believe that further recommendation must be implemented regarding the revision of the mental
health act in the minority groups, the community, the medical system, and in extensive cases
such as substance abuse and harm reduction. Considering the new challenges that the pandemic
has introduced to the public with the increasing report of cases in the mental health institutions.

As part of the synch class, the mental health facility of Mo. Teresa’s Home Care was
noticeably tidy and orderly on the materials, specifically in the nurse’s station, wherein most of
the nursing work in administration and management happens. The facility embarked a
welcoming and peaceful ambience for patients to walk in despite its overly neatness, it gives a
proper service in accordance with the area’s arrangement from the receiving and consultation
room to the patient’s wards. It provides a nestled living home situated for mental disable patients
to entrust their health and recovery as one of its primaries aims in their vision and mission.
Furthermore, they establish a specific schedule of activities which is important in maximizing the
available resources as evident in the photos that allows both the health care providers and the
patients to engage and interact comfortably whether in a group or individually. This entails how
significant the environmental factors in the treatment care delivered towards the client. As a
nursing student, it is essential to also address the misconceptions besides its delivery of treatment
care but also its financial cost in which it is mainstreamed that acute or chronic medical illness
such as ulcer, cancer, etc. are regarded as life-threatening condition whereas mental disorder are
somewhat at point that are not regarded as one. Consequently, the goal of achieving a future
quality of life in terms of our health shall not be defined at its condition whether it is
psychological and physiological in nature condition.
