Should students rethink their career choice in 2021?

From being amid a pandemic, where online jobs and studies

have become the ‘new normal’ to witnessing a surge of artificial
intelligence in work fields, the youth really must start questioning
their current education and career plans to safeguard their future.

One might wonder, “Why so and how does this current situation pose
a threat to future careers?”
In the year 2020, 62.4 billion dollars were invested in A.I, Artificial
Intelligence, a technological revolution that has replaced human jobs
with machines. A. I have replaced most jobs that didn’t necessarily
require education like, security guards, manual labor, factory jobs, etc.
It’s on its way to soon replace jobs that require higher education and
experience. While a human invests years to gather knowledge,
develop expertise and become a professional in their field, it would
take an artificially based machine less than 10 minutes to become a
work-expert. Logically, it is much easier to buy a machine once than
to take care of a person's education, needs, salaries, holidays, and
other benefits. The fear takes second place to a more banal dystopian
vision as automation creeps into workplaces, a world in which robots
would simply replace humans.
This concern has only been heightened by the virus.
Due to quarantine and social distancing, customers purchase via
browser or order takeaways via apps instead of purchasing products
or services from shops or restaurants. High streets that survive the
lockdown may discover that their former clients prefer to avoid the
hassle of a city ride. School from home, work from home, avocation
from home, all have been shifted to ‘tech’. Many ‘face-to-face
interactions’ jobs have been replaced by technology, unemployment
has skyrocketed all over the world and young adults are taking year
gaps from education, rethinking their career options.

Luckily the pandemic would not last a lifetime, it will scale down
eventually. And a Terminator or Age of Ultron-type scenario won’t
occur as A. I robot can’t be taught emotions or conscience, so most
likely they won’t become evil and start attacking humans unless they
are programmed to do so. Jokes aside, still, these two factors will
bring a change in the work environment and are going to pose a
serious career threat to the future generation.
What is the solution?
The first solution is to focus on creative skills or any
talent that requires one to look within themselves, think of an idea,
and figure out a way to present it to the world. Content creating,
writing, singing, abstract art, designers, event managers, coding, and
anything that pushes one to create from scratch. Because while an A. I
machine can replace any job that requires years of learning but it can’t
replace human creativity.
The second solution is to practice upskilling, to power ahead in one’s
career. An A. I machine have to be taught new professions by a
human being. Even in the middle of the A. I Revolution, there will be
a demand for an experienced skilled professional who is an expert in
particular subjects. Now is the time, to take full advantage of
Education Tech and learning new skills from the comfort of your
home. The best way to spend quarantine and to gain a new
perspective in your career life.
The third solution is to focus on your EQ, Emotional Quotient that is,
understanding other human beings. The job of understanding and
assisting someone's emotion cannot be done by machines, no matter
how advanced it is, it won’t be able to understand the complexity of
human emotions as we do. Emotional Quotient will be very highly
valued going forward and the effective way of learning EQ is to create
a lot of knowledge within our minds, to have multiple perspectives,
and to be open-minded.
