INTRODUCTION

Cleaning materials used in hotels are similar with what we use at home. Maybe you
are already using them as well. We do this regularly to prolong their lifespan and avoid high
cost of repairing them.

Why is there a need to maintain

tools, equipment, and
paraphernalia in the front office
department in good condition?
Maintain Tools, Equipment, and Paraphernalia

Cleaning computers is like cleaning electronic household items. Listed below

are items you need to use while cleaning tools, equipment, and paraphernalia.

1. Cloth- cotton cloth is the all- around tool used when rubbing
down your computer.

2.Water or rubbing alcohol- when moistening a cloth, it is

best to use water or alcohol. Solvents may harm your plastic
components.

3.Portable Vacuum- this is for sucking dust, dirt, hair, and

other particles that can harm the equipment.

4. Cotton swabs- cotton swabs moistened with rubbing alcohol can

help
reach hard areas for the keyboard and other locations.

5. Disinfectant spray or sanitizers- to disinfect areas known to

house germs.

6. Dust Mask- used to cover the nose and mouth to

prevent inhalation of dust and other dirt while cleaning.

7. Hand Gloves- sometimes this is important especially to avoid

contact with chemicals and for those with sensitive skin.

8. Goggles- usually enclosed to protect the area surrounding

the eye in order to prevent particulates, water, or chemicals from
striking the eyes.

9. Broom- is a cleaning implement for sweeping made of bundle

of straws or twigs attached to a long handle.
10. Dustpan- is a cleaning tool commonly used to scoop the dirt and wastes
on the floor.

The following is a set of standards to be followed when conducting maintenance.

 Plan a Preventive Maintenance

- Instead of waiting for a machine to malfunction or stop working entirely, schedule
regular inspections.
 Regular Cleaning
- Cleaning the dust and debris from your equipment is vital for its functioning.
 Employees’ Training
- Employees should know how to use the equipment to avoid any inadvertent
damages.
 Use the Right Products
- Use the right products when cleaning materials, tools, and equipment.

General Rules in the Use of Cleaning Equipment

1. Check electrical appliances and equipment before use. Check if there are frayed
wires, loose plugs ad connections. Never use any appliance that is defective.
2. Handle equipment with care and make sure it does not bump on hard surfaces.
3. Clean and store equipment in their custodial room immediately after use.
4. Empty dust bags of dry vacuum cleaners before they overload and after each use.
5. Follow manufacturer’s operating instruction.
6. Schedule a regular check-up of equipment to prevent serious breakdown.
7. To avoid electric shock or short circuit, do not expose equipment to rain or water.
Store them indoors to protect them from getting wet. Electrical equipment should
never be used in wet surfaces.
