OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this experiment, the students are expected to:
1. Plate metal samples with copper using acid Cu +2 plating solution.
2. Compare the mass change on the electrodes during electrolysis of an aqueous
CuSO4 solution.
3. Enumerate and discuss the factors affecting the amount deposition.
4. Verify the applicability of the acid sulfate solution in plating the different metals
commonly used in industry.
PROCEDURE:
For Set-Up A:
Copper Mesh as the Cathode
Copper Strip as the Anode
Beaker as the container
Stirring Rod as the support for the anode
1M of CuSO4
Constant Current Power Supply for the supply of power
Timer
For Set-Up B:
Power supply
Beaker
A coin
NaCl and Acetic solution for removing the impurities of the coin
Copper strip
Steel wool to polish the copper strip
1M of CuSO4
A stick and copper wire to support the coin
Beaker
Timer
