REFLECTION PAPER

I. INTRODUCTION

God Sees the Truth, But Waits is a short story centered on the life of Ivan Dmitrich

Aksionov who is falsely accused for a murder that he did not commit. It took him 26 years until

he found justice. The story is all about justice, guilt, forgiveness, faith and freedom. Aksionov

got faith in God no matter how difficult things may be. The story wants to suggest that no

matter how strong challenges that you are facing, faith in God will strengthen you and freedom

from guilt can be achieved if you ask forgiveness wholeheartedly to the one whom you hurt.

II. BODY

Ivan Dmitrich Aksionov, the protagonist of the story proved that challenges should not

break you down instead it’s a way to strengthen your faith to God who knows all the truth. He

was successful young merchant who has pleasant life not until he was framed for murder and

exiled to prison. He who suffered unjustly believed that God will one day balance the scales

and make all things right. There will be a day when God will wipe away every tear from our

eyes. When that day will come no one knows. We must wait with faith.

Makar Semenich who was the real culprit of the story portrays how forgiveness can set you

free. The moment when he asked for forgiveness from Aksionov thought him that forgiveness

is the key to have peaceful mind and this will unlock him from being locked from guilt. Even it

took him twenty six years already, he still asked for forgiveness for the grave sin he inflicted to

Aksionov.
The events in the story centered on we direct our lives even if challenges or hardship

that comes our way. Even if we had a perfectly logical explanation as to why God allows

sufferings to befall people it would still not lessen the pain and agony of people who are

suffering. The pain lessens if we have deeper faith in God and if we know how to ask

forgiveness for every sin we make.

III. CONCLUSION

After reading the short story “God sees the truth but waits I learned the importance of strong

faith to God.
