I. SUBJECT DESCRIPTION
By successfully completing this course, students will be able to:Identify their personal
communication style and communication strengths and weaknesses.Effectively communicate ideas in small
groups and team meetings.Develop and give short informative and persuasive presentations.Analyze an
audience and adjust communication style and delivery accordingly.Recognize how body language and other
non-verbal cues communicate unconscious messages.Identify several techniques for improving their listening,
response, and feedback skills.Demonstrate improved ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings
including the home, the workplace, and schools

III. STANDARDS

Learning Area Standards

The learner defines effective communication and explains the elements of the communication
process, the best communication approach, and internal and external barriers. The learner describes
the value of effective communication and its various elements.

Key stage of Standards

At the end of 1st semester, the learner should have developed the communications skills and the
different macro competencies of an individual. Having been exposed in public speaking and other
social activities. This course is designed so that the student may gain a new awareness of the
importance of speech habits in daily life as well as how dialects and poor vocal habits can contribute
to the impressions people create. In addition to learning about speech and voice in general, the
student enrolled in this course should have a personal interest in his or her own communication skills
and in increasing his or her oral communication competence

Grade level Standards

At the end of the semester, the students should be able to explain the components of the
communication process ,recognize the levels, types and functions of communication; apply correct
pronunciation and diction and use English as a second language in different communicative
situations.

The learners demonstrate an understanding of:

2. values the functions/ purposes of oral communication.
3. recognizes that communicative competence requires understanding of speech context, speech style,
speech act and communicative strategy.
4. realizes the rigors of crafting one’s speech

1. designs and performs effective controlled and uncontrolled oral communication activities based on
context.
2. writes a 250-word essay of his/her objective observation and evaluation of the various speakers watched
and listened to

Complete Requirements
All requirements which include written works, performances tasks and quarterly examinations
for this subject must be completed by the given deadline or special permission must be
requested from teacher before the due date. Extensions will not be given beyond the next
academic tasks except under extreme circumstances. Late submission will affect the student’s
grades.
