PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLERS

FINAL EXAMINATION
Constructing Ladder Diagrams

Direction:
1. Design the Ladder Diagram for the problems stated below.
2. Screen Capture the diagram and Copy-Paste to this document, for each problem. Separate the
diagrams into two pages when necessary.
3. Name the document with your surname, upload your answer to the folder Final-Doc.
4. Save the diagram in native ZelioSoft format and upload the two files using your surname in this
format: DelaCruz_Final1.zm2 and DelaCruz_Final2.zm2
5. Upload the files in the folder Final-Sim.
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
Problem 1: Multi-Cycle Parallel Tanks Control

1. Production begins with pushing START/STOP button, which in turn activates Valve 1.
2. START button also activates timers T1 and T2. The Timers automatically activates valves V2 and
V3.
3. T1 and T2 are set for 15 seconds. When preset time is reached, V2 and V3 are turned off.
4. Turning off V2 and V3 activates T3 and T4 and are set for 12 seconds.
5. When the timers are activated, valves V4 and V5 opens to let out water from the tanks. After the
preset time is reached, both valves are closed.
6. At the end of the cycle, START/STOP button is pushed to turn off Valve 1.

**Design a Ladder Diagram for the system which will REPEAT 3 times automatically **

**Number of Inputs, Outputs, Timers and Counters will be dependent on your design. Please
LABEL components clearly. Use the Comment Box for the rungs for clarification purposes**

Problem 2: Automatic Material Stamping Process

1. Sequence begins by pushing START button, GREEN Indicator light turns ON to signify that process
has started. START button activates the Conveyor Motor (M1).
2. Material is loaded into Station 1. S1 senses that a material has been put into the conveyor. S1
activates the Barrier Arm to let the material through. Conveyor Motor (M1) transports material to
station 2.
3. S2 senses the material and stops M1. T1 is activated, preset for 2 seconds, and activates the
STAMPER, and deactivates after pre-set time. M1 is turned ON again after STAMPER is deactivated,
the material continues to Station 3.
4. S3 senses the material and activates Pusher Arm to knock the material from the conveyor belt.
5. STOP button is pressed to deactivate M1 at the end of the process. Red indicator lights up, Green
indicator turns off.
