ULO 1 Let’s Check

Activity 2: List all the minimum dimension and requirements to construct a 2 storey
residential building that fits according to:
1. Size and Dimension of the rooms
- Habitation rooms 6 square.meter with at least 2 dimensions
- Kitchens 3 square meter with a minimum dimension of 1.50m.
- Toilet and bath 1.20 square meter with at least 0.90m dimensions
2. Ceiling Heights
- Habitable rooms provided with artificial ventilation shall have ceiling
heights not less than 2.40 meters measured from the floor to the ceiling;
Provided that for buildings of more than one-storey, the minimum ceiling
height of the first storey shall be 2.70 meters and that for the second
storey 2.40 meters and succeeding storeys shall have an unobstructed
typical head-room clearance of not less than 2.10 meters above the
finished floor. Above stated rooms with a natural ventilation shall have
ceiling heights not less than 2.70 meters.
3. Air Space of a Room
- Habitable rooms – 14.00 cubic meters of air space per person.
4. Site Requirements
- At least 6 meters away from the steep slopes or cliffs.
- At least 10 meters away from, and elevated above, rivers and bodies of
water.
5. Foundation for Masonry Construction
- For hard soils, excavate 40cm deep by 60cm wide
- For soft soils, excavate 50cm deep by 70cm wide.
6. Masonry Wall
- Select good quality 15cm (6”) wide blocks that do not break when
dropped.
- Mortar is1-part sand and 5 parts cements.
- Mortar joints between 0.6cm and 1.6cm thick.
- First half of columns are cast after 1.5 meters of wall height
- 10mm vertical reinforcement used every 40cm.
- 10mm horizontal rebar dowels every 3 courses at wall column
connection.
- Rebar is overlapped 40cm at splices.
- Wall reinforcing bars terminate with a 12cm standard hook in to the ring
beam.
- All block cells solidly grouted in one meter lifts.
7. Excavation of wood frame construction foundation and knee wall must have 40 cm
deep by 50 cm wide.
8. Wood Frame Wall
- 18 gauge (1.2mm) minimum thickness for straps.
- 4”x4” (10x10 cm) posts or two 2”x4” (5x10 cm) nailed

together every 3” (7.5 cm) used at all corners.


- 2”x4” (5x10 cm) studs at 60 cm on center.
- Doubled 2”x4” (5x10cm) or single 4”x4” (10x10cm) top
plate.
9. According to National Electrical Code of the Philippines
- The voltage shall not exceed 230 volts for a 14 hp load or 1440 VA.
- A minimum of one 20 A branch circuit for the laundry circuit.
- At least one 20-ampere-hour power supply outlet for the bathroom.

- Single 20 A branch circuits are permitted for dwelling units with a floor
area of no more than 50 sq mm and a maximum voltage of 3680 VA.

- Heavy-duty lamp holder outlet = 600 volt-amperes, other outlets = 180


volt amperes per outlet

- Each single or multiple receptacles on a single strap must have a


minimum of 180 volt-amperes for receptacle outlets.

- Receptacles must be installed so that no point in the wall space


measured horizontally along the floor line is more than 1800 mm from the
receptacle outlet, unless they are within 450 mm of the wall, floor
receptacles are not counted toward the required number of receptacle
outlets.

- The receptacle outlet must be located above the tabletop, but no higher
than 500 mm. In the restroom, the receptacle outlet must be no more
than 900 mm away from the basin. One receptacle outlet is required in
basements and garages.

- Lighting units or other utilization equipment, or a combination of both, are


permitted on 15- and 20-ampere branch circuits.

- For 30-amp branch circuits serving fixed lighting units with heavy-duty
lamp holders in non-dwelling units or in any occupancy.

- Cooking appliances installed in any occupancy shall be permitted to be


powered by 40- and 50-ampere branch circuits.

- Branch circuits with a capacity of more than 50 amps are only to be


used to power non-lighting outlet loads.

- Within 900 mm of the outside border of each basin, at least one wall
receptacle outlet must be installed in bathrooms in housing units. at least

- one receptacle outlet in addition to any provided for laundry equipment.


- At least one receptacle outlet shall be installed directly above the show
window for every 3600 linear mm major fraction thereof of show window
area measured horizontally at its maximum width.
- The receptacle for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration is located
within 7600 mm.

- A pallet load is typically shaped like a cube with heights ranging from
120 to 150 centimeters (120 cm to 150 cm) and consists of a single or
multiple.
- the maximum height of palletized storage shall not exceed nine hundred
ten centimeters (910 cm).
- Single row racks are racks up to 180 cm wide that are separated from
other storage by at least one meter (1m) aisles.
- Double row racks are made up of two single row racks placed back to
back with a combined width of up to 370 cm and aisles at least one
meter (1m) wide on each side.

12. According to the Sanitary Law of the Philippines
- The first compartment must have a capacity ranging from half to two
thirds of the total volume of the tank.
- It shall not be built beneath any building or within 25 feet of any
building.
