What role does imagination play in producing knowledge about the world?

Essay -
Personal experience, according to several people, does not pair up with knowledge. Nonetheless,

this issue is more complex than it appears when taking a first look. Knowledge incorporates a wide range

of concepts, which influence our reality and knowledge. I will be discussing parts of personal experience

that can be of interest to expertise. In my paper, I will use artwork to explain my arguments. I chose

paintings with obviously related problems, such as mental illnesses, to fully engage in this subject.

Zarina Situmorang “Falling into depression”

Zarina Situmorang's "Falling into depression" was the

first work to put in my exhibition. When Zarina discusses the

significance of this painting, she tells the audience that the

minute we abandon our ambitions and wishes, we are surrounded

by things that provide joy to us. We give up and cannot find the

cause to stand up and work on our goals again. As we know,

people have always attempted to communicate the message to

audiences by making art. Creativity is a unique chance for a

person who has had a particular experience to view the world

through its eyes. This artwork, therefore, links us to the essential question. We change our vision of the

world by going through a particular change or experience, especially when it is painful to our mentality.

What could make us happy, but it can't make us happy anymore because we can't trust it anymore.

Imagination is limited, and given our previous experience, creativity is minimized. To grow from life

experiences, we need the process of imagination. We live believing that during depression, everything

around us is boring because people change their view on life. As I explained, knowledge is a perspective

on the universe. Some situations, like sadness, impact us, which disrupts all of our knowledge. We rethink

many things, and our view of reality changes, so knowledge of the world develops too. We all
experienced something, and we know that other people will never understand, which is why we keep it to

ourselves.

Edvard Munch “The Scream”

Edvard Munch painted the second image. When asked

why the artist opted to create this piece, he said that he watched

the sunset one day while taking a walk and saw fire and heard

screams. There are several ideas of the actual way he made this

image. Art historians think that Edvard watched a volcanic

explosion in 1883 and got the idea, and other art historians link

this photo with his mental disorders. This version is often used

and confirmed. Since Edvard had a mental problem, his sense of

world and reality have considerably changed in his sight, which

means that the second idea of Historians connects us with the essay's subject.

Salvator Dali “The Persistence of Memory”

Salvator Dali's "The persistence of

memory" is the last photograph that I selected to

put in my exhibition. I picked this artwork because

it is closely related to the role of imagination in

people's knowledge. When you first see this picture,

you would conclude that the clock melted away

since the owner left the clock till nightfall. When

you look at this more deeply, on a second look, we can notice that beneath it lies a story. Based on the

melting of the clocks, we may imagine the person who formerly possessed the watch was leaving him,

using his time and imagination for knowledge. "The persistence of memory alludes to the influence of the

scientific advances during Dali's lifetime." according to dalipaintings.com. Dali utilized his imagination to

produce this artwork during his pursuit of knowledge. To make knowledge, he had to use his imagination.
To conclude, we can see that imagination plays a big role in producing knowledge about the

world. A person should be ready to sacrifice time for imagination so they can get more ideas and gain

more knowledge.
