COVID-19 has posed a significant challenge to the Philippines, ranging from

people’s health due to its poor public health system to the worsening economic

performance due to the sudden outbreak of the Pandemic, and with each passing days,

months even a year we are still on lockdown, despite the fact that millions of our people

and billions of pesos have been obtained through numerous loans and debts and this

emphasizes that the government’s response to COVID-19 is nowhere near excellent

and in desperate need of improvement. In my opinion, though the government has

already taken steps to halt the spread of the virus and bring the crisis under control,

through enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) which I think could have been done

much more, with better crisis response, but considering our government's structural

shortcomings, it's the best we can do. However, while other nations have been granted

immunity, our government has only been able to enforce lockdown after lockdown as
our health-care system is on the verge of collapsing which is the evident that

implementing lockdown approach alone will not be enough to resolve the pandemic and

other economic and social problems that we are facing right now. Meanwhile, as

vaccination is moving at a slow pace, the government force to implement another

distance learning for the school year 2021-2022, which demonstrates how the

government failed to deal with the pandemic, as not only our economy, but also on

other sectors, education for example that were are suffering as a result, furthermore,

with the hospitals now at capacity, huge number of people have been forced to wait for

a long period of time for admittance, with some even dying before entering the facility

which proved that people do not have enough access to emergency medical care. In

conclusion, one year is more than enough time for our government to demonstrate its

ability to lead Filipinos through a crisis, but they have failed miserably, there were a lack

of preparation by addressing the shortfall of facilities and equipment and because of

their gross incompetence, misplaced priorities, and misallocation of resources, we are in

distress.
