He was one of the founders and later Supremo (Supreme Leader) of the Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-

galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan or more commonly known as the "Katipunan", a movement
which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine
Revolution.

Bonifacio became the top leader, or Presidente Supremo, of the Katipunan. Along with his friends Emilio
Jacinto and Pio Valenzuela, Bonifacio published a newspaper called the Kalayaan, or "Freedom."

The aim of the KKK was not to reign supreme over our Spanish colonizers, but to take back the freedom
that was snatched from us, through an Revolution
