Explain how these different factors affect the learning process. Choose only 3 among
all the words written in the boxes.
Learning is a process of acquiring and constructing new knowledge and skills. Each of us
has strategies or methods of acquiring knowledge, and we must know the different factors that
may affect learning and the goals we intend to accomplish. A factor that affects learning is
FAMILY. Our family has a significant impact on learning because they are involved in our
development. If they are supportive, concerned, and involved in the learning process, we can
achieve so much more and have a positive outlook on learning. Researchers also claimed that
parents’ behavior affects children's education. On the other hand, a family with a negative attitude
towards learning also affects their child’s perspective.
Another factor is MENTAL HEALTH. Learning is also affected by the way an individual
perceives things around him/her. Good mental health is vital to children’s successful performance
in school and life. Thus, Mental health awareness is essential because mental health affects the
way a person thinks. It is important because many researchers claimed that mental health issues
cause student performance and school drop-out rates.
Furthermore, EXPERIENCE affects the learning process. Prior knowledge and experiences
are essential in constructing new knowledge and skills. When students incorporate experiences
needed in learning, they can easily cope with the different learning expectations and outcomes.
They would be able to associate theories and information found in books with real-life situations.
All in all, students should be aware, identify and work on these factors to develop holistically and
meaningfully contribute to our society.
Write a narrative reflecting on the effects of environment and sociological spheres in the
development of the different learner-centered psychological principles that contribute to one’s
overall development. Highlight also the task of teachers.

When I was in high school, our Values (Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao) teacher would
always let us see movies about virtues, good morals, and development. Movies like
“Magnifico,” “3 idiots”, and “Miracles from Heaven”. What I would never forget is the movie
“Every child is special.” It talks about a character named Ishaan, who has dyslexia. He had
difficulty with reading, writing, and learning and was made fun of by his classmates. His father
expected him to excel in school, while his mother was frustrated with her inability to educate
her son. Teachers ridiculed him, and by then, he was sent to a boarding school.
We could see how his environment and the society around him affected Ishaan’s overall
development. He was afraid to learn because his teachers do not know how to handle him and
how his mind works. Ishaan was only seen as a mischievous and misbehaving student. He lost
his confidence because of the strict treatment he experienced from the teachers in the
boarding school. If every child is treated just like Ishaan was treated in the movie, learning is
impossible, and knowledge is vague. External factors like the environment and sociological
spheres affect a child’s development. These factors determine the nature of the learning
process, how they construct knowledge, their motivation, etc.
Teachers influence the development of the learners. Just like in the movie, Ishaan met
Teacher Ram, who changed his life. He understood Ishaan’s hardship and did everything so that
Ishaan would see his worth and potential. Like Teacher Ram, teachers are also responsible for
assisting every learner in realizing and reaching their potential. They are expected to facilitate
learning and create opportunities for learners to collaborate with one another. Teachers should
be the learners’ support and guide, so students could achieve their true potential and success.
All in all, these principles are essential to deal with learners holistically. The
environment and the people around us dramatically affect our learning and development. As
future teachers, it is our responsibility to acknowledge these principles for us to understand our
students. We also must create an engaging environment fit for learning. Lastly, we should be
selfless towards helping our students achieve the dreams and goals they have in the future.
