My Dream School Community

Cynthia Rowley once said, “I’ve got a theory: if you love your workspace, you’ll love your work
a little more.” This quotation by Cynthia Rowley mostly speaks about what people usually want, which is
a desirable workspace. Doctors wish hospitals that are clean and hospitable. People in business want
offices where they can think clearly and creatively. Teachers want to be in school communities that
promote positive school culture with harmonious environments. We all desire to work in these preferable
situations. Allow me to narrate my dreamed school community and the assumptions, values, and beliefs
present in this school community.
First of all, I dreamed of teaching in a peaceful school community where teachers and students
work together to achieve the institution’s goals, vision, and mission. It would be great to be in an
environment that encourages camaraderie and excellence instead of inferiority and mediocrity, upholding
kindness and love over hate and selfishness. A school community that strives to fulfill the students’ needs
and flourish their skills and talents. A place where teachers continuously instill enthusiasm in obtaining
knowledge and character. I dreamed of seeing smiles on my students’ faces and hearing their laughs and
cheers everywhere. I wish to see passionate teachers filled with zeal to teach and learn.
Furthermore, it is delightful to see a community that endeavors to improve the school and its
students. Parents support their children in their academics, and the government and its citizens are
collaborating to suffice and supply the schools’ needs. Teachers unite with other stakeholders in the
community to develop learners with critical minds and strong characters. Everyone is working hand to
hand to uphold the future of our nation, our children. Just like the saying of Doctor Jose Rizal, “Children,
the hope of our nation.”
Lastly, I dreamed of seeing the achievements that my students have achieved. To see them with
their medals and trophies after competitions would be a blissful moment in the future. Also, I hope to see
my fellow teachers get recognized for their hard work and perseverance. I want to have awards, too, as
well. Besides, I wish to see that the people in this community are proud of their children and their
achievements. I want them to recognize my students’ tenacity and determination.
In conclusion, my dreamed school community maybe just like yours. We may have thought and
imagined the same school community to work in the future or perhaps the opposite. But no matter the
similarities and differences we want to happen, I hope that our primary goal is to help our students,
encourage them to learn and understand the world around them. It may be a small thing to do, but it
would mean the world to them.
Reflective Learning
1. How were your experiences in navigating this lesson? Please describe.
It was a great experience navigating through this lesson. I enjoyed writing about my dreamed
school community. It allowed me to reflect on what environment I want to be in the future. The essay
made me visualize the things I want to see and feel like a teacher. I know they were just assumptions or
expectations, but it made me feel driven to accomplish and obtain these things in the future.
2. What did you learn that is/are essential in your future work as a teacher in a school community?
Looking forward to what school community I want in the future helped me realize that I should
always be spontaneous in teaching and imparting knowledge to my students. I realized that it is my duty
and obligation to teach, to support and to guide my students towards the path of success. As a teacher, I
should cooperate with other stakeholders to effectively create individuals with great minds and characters.
