What are Schools For?

My answer to this question brings different views from people that it is a tool for self-

discovery and personal growth. A school is a place where we can learn and develop the skills

necessary to thrive in life. It is a place where we can explore our interests and gain knowledge

that will help us in our future pursuits. A school is also a place where we can build relationships

and connections with other students, teachers, and staff. It can also be a place to foster creativity

and innovation and develop important life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and

critical thinking. The relations we build while in the learning institutions become of great

assistance in the afterlife of school, such as in the search for jobs, association with the

community, or winning different contracts we will apply for. In this paper, I discuss the essence

and understanding I have gained for schools and the shape I would like to see for my kids as I

take them to school to study.

For myself, the school has provided me with the opportunity to grow and develop in ways

I never thought possible. It has opened my eyes to the world and helped me gain knowledge and

understanding in areas I never thought I would explore. It has also enabled me to form

relationships with peers and mentors that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The school has

helped me become more confident, competent, and self-aware. It has taught me that we are all

different but have many of the same desires and needs. I would describe the school experience as

incredibly positive, as I believe every day is an opportunity to use our time in school to learn,

grow, and develop. I am thankful daily for the chance to attend school because it helps make me

who I am today. The school makes me see the world differently and allows me to see things from

a new perspective.

I have also learned how to relate with different people from school. The diversity

promoted in school and the way we have to learn to live with people with additional attributes to

us have shaped my social life to be a great one. Because of the interactions that we have had, I

have been able to make everything easier, understand how other people feel, and react to

situations. From this, I have learned how to live with the diversity in the people I interact with. I

have also made terms with understanding that the differences that we have with the other people

are a lot, and that we cannot segregate them to live without digression of the other people's

opinions in our lives. Understanding how to live and interact with people is essential as it creates

a sense of empathy and helps us appreciate the difference in views. Schools make us understand

this at a young age. As we grow with an appreciation of diversity, we get to interact easily with

other people and learn how to live in harmony with people whom we interact with later in life as

we grow.

For my children, I want to ensure that they have the same opportunity that I did to gain

knowledge and develop their skills. I want them to find joy in learning and be able to explore

their interests in a safe environment. I also want them to be able to build relationships and foster

creativity, innovation, and life skills. My husband and I talk to our children about school and

what they will learn. I want them to have healthy self-esteem and respect for their teachers,

classmates, and peers. I will try to instill in them the importance of curiosity and asking

questions. We also try to explain to them how important these traits are for their future success.

In addition, I want to ensure that they have the best opportunity to grow and develop

academically and socially. I want to make sure that they have access to the best resources and

support, as I had while attending school. I want to help my siblings to develop life skills, such as

effective communication and problem-solving. I want them to be able to find joy in learning and

explore their interests in a safe environment. I want them to feel secure in their education, as they

will attend school for many years. They need quality teachers, a clean and organized place, and

support from their school leaders so they can thrive while in school. My children and siblings

attend the same public charter school I do. We chose this school because it is small, with low

teacher-student ratios, a strong curriculum, and a supportive administration.

Giving the children ample time and a suitable environment to undertake their learning

will contribute greatly to their performance that they will have. Additionally, they will

understand the different weaknesses they have to work on while in school and also identify the

challenges they have to overcome as they study. In addition, I will have to make them understand

that they have to give their best in all that they do to achieve the best performance they can.

From the education that they will receive from the schools, they will get to learn the values and

traits that will be of great help to them in their lives and the ones that they will be able to rely on

as they live and grow up to become successful later in their lives.

Generally, a school is where students can learn and develop to become more well-

rounded and capable individuals. It is a place where students can form relationships, gain

knowledge, and explore their interests. It is also a place where students can build upon their

creativity and life skills. School is a tool for self-discovery and personal growth and should be

valued as such. It is a place where students can find joy in learning and be nurtured as they

prepare to become productive members of society.
