Philosophy of Teaching

When I was in elementary school, I like many of my peers had dreams of becoming a
doctor or a nurse when I was older. I did not know until I was in high school that my true dream
career was to be a teacher. I was one of those people that a majority of the content in school
came easy to, and because of that I was able to help my peers by explaining the content in an
alternate way. Being able to experience the “aha” moments when my classmates finally
understood the information was indescribable. That feeling is what led me to my dream of
becoming a teacher. My choice to go into this career has only been solidified during my many
different experiences in the classroom with students.
My goal as a teacher is to be someone who makes an impact on the future generations
and who is remembered because of those impacts. Everything that we as teachers do in our
classroom helps to prepare our students for their futures. I would not want to see a world in
which there are no teachers because the world needs teachers and learners. Without the many
wonderful educators throughout the world, our societies would not be what they are today.
I strive to be a teacher who supports her students in every possible way and who
encourages them to try their best every day. I feel it is important for students to have a growth
mindset in the classroom in order for students to meet their highest potential. If students do not
believe in themselves and their ability to succeed, they are not going to be able to learn and grow
academically. I am going to continue to emphasize to my students that even when things are
hard, and we make mistakes those are opportunities for us to grow and work even harder to
achieve our goals.
Students need to be able to feel safe and comfortable in the environment they are learning
in. As a teacher I want to make sure to build relationships and connections with all of my
students to ensure that they feel safe in the classroom setting. I want to be there for my students
through whatever they may be going through like many of my teachers were for me. Our
societies rely on relationships between everyone and the skill of creating these relationships is
established in the classroom. I will continue to learn in order to be the best educator for my
students. I want to be a role model for my students and show them how important it is to
continue to learn beyond school. Through professional development experiences, meetings, and
workshops I will continue to learn new techniques and broaden my knowledge. In order to be the
best teacher for my students and future school, I will give my students and the profession of
teaching my best effort.
