Communication has a crucial role in our lives as it is the key to understanding one’s

culture, perceptions and characteristics. It is one of the reasons why peace is dominant in the
world. Communication also have various types. First is the intrapersonal communication.
Communicating within ourselves can make us calm in difficult situations like now the
challenging CoVid19 pandemic, can boost our self-confidence, can decide or think better,
ponder conscientiously about what to utter before speaking, we will get to know ourselves
better, we can also alter our attitudes and most of all we can abstain ourselves from pessimistic
thinking such as suicidal thoughts.
Communication also occurs within two individuals only or more. Two individuals
communicating is called interpersonal communication while more than two person talking is
group communication. There are a lot of differences between the two and here are some; in
participants, group communication has more participants than interpersonal communication
which has only two. In the barrier aspect, the first have more barriers rather than the latter
while in understanding the conveyed message, in group communication the message was not
comprehend by the receivers due to the one-to-many situation whereas in interpersonal
communication the conveyed message was clearly understand by the receiver. In terms of
receiver of the message, in group communication there are many decoders while in
interpersonal communication there are at least two decoders of the conveyed message in case
there is a feedback happened.
In communication, there are also barriers that hinder us to understand what the
encoder or speaker wants to convey. In the first situation, too many concepts in a lesson the
barrier in communication being illustrated is barrier due to information load because a learner
could not understand a lesson if there are too many topics being discussed while in the second
situation, rural women may not like to discuss their problems with males the barrier being
shown is socio-cultural barrier for the reason that it is a culture for some countries and others
may have different interpretation about it. Individual differences is a psychological barrier
because our own perceptions and beliefs may result to misunderstanding. In the last situation,
physical barrier was being implied in poor seating arrangements for the reason that the setting
is not arranged in proper manner.
Another exemplification for barrier in communication is when a Pangasinense
physician talked to his Ilocano patient with a chronic illness, using his own dialect and medical
terms in a very boisterous and crowded ward. The barriers being showcased in the situation
are the following: first, the medical terms and the dialect used by the physician to communicate
with his patient and second, the setting of the communication which is very boisterous and
crowded. To address or avoid this barriers, the speaker must use a simple language like the
dialect in that place or English language may do so in order for the receiver to comprehend
clearly the conveyed message. Another step is that a physician with the same field with the
speaker and same dialect with the receiver may translate what is being tackled between the
two concerned individuals. Lastly, the physician must look for a place or room like his office
wherein they can communicate peacefully.
