REPORT
EFEECTIVE DECISSION MAKING
Title
I - INTRODUCTION:
Decision making is the cognitive process leading to the selection of a course of action among
alternatives. Every decision making process produces a final choice. It can be an action or an opinion.
It begins when we need to do something but we do not know what. Therefore, decision making is a
reasoning process which can be rational or irrational, and can be based on explicit assumptions or tacit
assumptions. Examples: Shopping, deciding what to eat, What to wear, when to sleep, etc..
II - DISCUSSION:
The method each person uses to make effective decisions varies as much as the traits of the individual
himself. No matter what decision-making strategy you've developed, in order to make truly effective
decisions in your professional life, it's important to keep four key factors in mind and incorporate them
into your decision-making method
1. Identify the problem that needs to be solved or what you hope to achieve as a result of making the
decision.
2. Create a list of possible solutions and the advantages and disadvantages of each. If the decision
you're trying to make is of great importance, it's helpful to actually write down the possibilities,
along with their pros and cons.
3. Narrow down the list of possible solutions to only those that will result in solving the problem or
achieving your goal.
4. Make your decision. By this step in the process, you have gained an understanding of the
possibilities, the advantages and disadvantages of each and which of those will bring you closer to
your goal or problem resolution with the least amount of negative fallout.
